Rapid Access Vascular Clinics for Patients with Diabetes – A Multidisciplinary Approach Saves Legs

Introduction: Diabetic foot ulcer patients require a multidisciplinary approach. Increasing prevalence of diabetes and longer life expectancy in the UK has led to an increase in the need for diabetic foot ulcer management in vascular clinics. Dedicated rapid access vascular (RAV) clinics to improve cross regional diabetic foot care and prevent major limb amputations were instituted two years ago. Access to this clinic was predominantly direct from specialist podiatrists and diabetic foot clinics in addition to those patients who were discharged from the hospital with diabetic foot problems.
