The Role of Tissue Ki-67 Proliferative Index and Pathological Changes as Predictors of Patency of Hemodialysis Arteriovenous Fistulae: Preliminary Results

Introduction: Arteriovenous fistulae (AVF) for hemodialysis integrates outward remodeling with vessel wall thickening in response to drastic hemodynamic changes in the setting of uremia, systemic inflammation, oxidative stress and pre-existent vascular disease. It is plausible that the AVF remodeling has a temporal scan that begins without obvious morphological alterations and ends with the failure of the fistula.
