This study aimed to detect the levels of cytokeratin 7 (CK7) and thyroid transcription factor -1(TTF-1) in serum of patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) complicated with superior vena cava syndrome (SVCS), and to explore their prognosis and relationship and correlation with pathological characteristics. METHODS: 68 patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) complicated with SVCS treated in Shaoxing Second Hospital from July 2014 to May 2018 were selected as the experimental group, 60 normal healthy persons as the control group, and 60 patients with lung cancer as the lung cancer group. The levels of C...

Imaging tests of the neck assist in the diagnosis and management of thyroid conditions including thyroid cancer. Ultrasound (US) is usually the first imaging test used. For nodules in the neck, US is usually appropriate to determine cancer risk. CT with or  without intravenous (IV) contrast may also be appropriate. For suspected enlarged thyroid (goiter), US or CT without IV contrast is usually appropriate. CT with IV contrast, MRI, or nuclear medicine scan may also be appropriate. If overactive thyroid (hyperthyroidism) or excessive thyr oid hormone (thyroto...

Publication date: Available online 25 January 2020Source: Seminars in Cancer BiologyAuthor(s): Nikita Pozdeyev, Madison M. Rose, Daniel W. Bowles, Rebecca E. SchweppeAbstractAnaplastic thyroid cancer (ATC) represents one of the most lethal human cancers and although this tumor type is rare, ATC accounts for the majority of deaths from thyroid cancer. Due to the rarity of ATC, a comprehensive genomic characterization of this tumor type has been challenging, and thus the development of new therapies has been lacking. To date, there is only one mutation-driven targeted therapy for BRAF-mutant ATC. Recent genomic studies have ...

It is of interest because of a possible prognostic role of differential expression in tumors and its role as a target for indatuximab, a monoclonal antibody coupled with a cytotoxic agent. To comprehensively analyze ...

CONCLUSIONS: Although pSS is associated with a higher risk of developing NHL, the risk of NHL appears to have decreased compared with that in previous studies. Our study suggests that the risk of NHL or thyroid cancer with SS is not higher than that reported in previous studies. PMID: 31969226 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

MEAN PLATELET VOLUME: AN OVERLOOKED HERALD OF MALIGNANT THYROID NODULES. Acta Clin Croat. 2019 Sep;58(3):417-420 Authors: Sit M, Aktas G, Ozer B, Kocak MZ, Erkus E, Erkol H, Yaman S, Savli H Abstract Physicians and surgeons pay much attention to evaluating thyroid nodules due to the malignant potential of these growths. Inflammation has a crucial role in the development of cancer. Increase in the mean platelet volume (MPV) has been described in various inflammatory conditions. Since some of thyroid nodules are malignant, we aimed to compare MPV values between patients with malignant and benign thyroid ...

CONCLUSIONS The reduction of SRF appears to play a crucial role in the origin of TC. These properties are accomplished by the target genes of SRF, as a transcription factor, or by the axes with the associated miRNAs. PMID: 31967986 [PubMed - in process]
