Bactericidal activity of Cannabis sativa phytochemicals from leaf extract and their derived Carbon Dots and Ag@Carbon Dots

Pooja, Anu Priya MinhasAbstractThe present was the first report on the synthesis of Carbon dots (CDs) using the acetone leaf extract of Cannabis sativa, an abundant weed plant as a sole carbon precursor. The obtained ∼5 nm spherical CD particles (exhibiting 13% absolute quantum yield) were further to synthesize silver@CDs (Ag@CDs). CDs and Ag@CDs characterization revealed characteristic functional groups attributing to the aromatic, carboxylated and hydroxylated moieties. Ether and acetone leaf extracts of C. sativa exhibited strong antibacterial activity against dental microflora. In this study, a series of Ag-loaded hyperbranched polyethyleneimine/polyethersulfone (HPEI/PES) nanofibrous membranes were prepared via electrospinning. Hyperbranched polyethyleneimine was used as a dispersant and capping agent by the chelation of Ag ions by its internal imine groups and due to its highly branched structure. The aim of this study was the assessment of the effect of time exposure, temperature, distance, and organic contaminants on radiant catalytic ionization (RCI) microbicidal effectiveness. The number of all examined bacteria decreased together with time exposure of RCI. The lowest recovery was obtained, both from the rubber surface (6.36 log CFU × cm–2) and steel (6.04 log CFU × cm–2) in the case of Escherichia coli O157:H7. In this study, Ca-LTA Zeolite-diatomite-based adsorbents with purified diatomite loading rates of 15, 20 and 25 wt% are investigated by physicochemical, thermal and antibacterial characterizations. X-ray diffraction and FTIR spectroscopy analyses show that the purified diatomite is homogeneously dispersed into the Ca-LTA zeolite and that the zeolite crystalline structure is preserved.
