OsNHAD is a chloroplast membrane-located transporter required for resistance to salt stress in rice (Oryza sativa)

In this study, we functionally identified an uncharacterized sodium ion transporter named OsNHAD which encodes a putative Na+ ⁄ H+ antiporter in rice. Homology search shows its close relation to the Arabidopsis Na+/H+ antiporter AtNHD1 with 72.74% identity of amino acids. OsNHAD transcripts mainly express in leaves and are induced by Na+ stress. Confocal laser scanning microscopy analysis of OsNHAD::GFP fusion in tobacco leaves shows that OsNHAD resides in the chloroplast envelop. Knock-down of OsNHAD by RNA interference led to increased rice sensitivity to Na+, manifested by stunted plant growth, enhanced cellular damage, reduced PSII activity and changed chloroplast morphology. Mutation of OsNHAD also resulted in accumulation of more Na+ in chloroplasts as well as shoots, suggesting that OsNHAD is involved in mediating efflux and detoxification of Na+ but does not affect K+ accumulation in plant cells and in tissues. Complementation test reveals that OsNHAD was able to functionally restore the Arabidopsis mutant atnhd1-1 growth phenotype. These results suggest that OsNHAD possibly mediates homeostasis of sodium ions in the subcellular compartments and tissues of the plants when challenged to salt stress.

In this study, outbred and see-through Japanese medaka (Oryzias latipes) were fed diets amended with 500, 1000, or 2000 µg/g 10 µm fluorescent spherical polystyrene microplastics (MPs) for 10 weeks during their maturation from juveniles to spawning adults. In conclusion, an epidermal component in primary cutaneous clear cell sarcomas, or cutaneous metastasis of the tumor, is exceptional and represents a potential diagnostic pitfall. Careful attention to the salient morphologic features in the dermal component of the tumor, as well as confirmation of EWSR1 gene rearrangement by fluorescence in situ hybridization or reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction, is necessary for correct recognition of the tumor and to avoid erroneous diagnosis of a benign or malignant melanocytic proliferation.

Conclusions: Voluntary wheel running partially protected against retinal degeneration and inflammation, and RPE disruption in a model of inducible adRP. This is the first report of exercise protection in an adult adRP animal model. It is also the first report of an RPE phenotype in the I307N Rho mouse. These findings add to a growing literature reporting that modest whole-body exercise is protective across a wide range of models of retinal damage and disease, and further highlights the potential for this accessible and inexpensive therapeutic intervention in the ophthalmic clinic. ConclusionsNUT midline carcinoma is usually very aggressive. Currently, there is no standard of care for treatment of NUT midline carcinoma. The definitive diagnosis must be by demonstration ofNUTM1 rearrangement. Immunohistochemical staining of greater than 50% of tumor nuclei on formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded tissue using the monoclonal rabbit antibody to NUT (clone C52B1), has a specificity of 100%, and sensitivity of 87% for the diagnosis of NUT midline carcinoma. Our case is the first Brazilian case of NUT midline carcinoma with BRD4-NUT fusion.
