Methotrexate in the treatment of paediatric alopecia areata: Retrospective case series and updated meta-analysis.
CONCLUSIONS: Overall, this study shows that methotrexate for paediatric AA in an Australian context was beneficial for the majority of cases assessed and had minimal adverse effects. We report a 14 years-old young man with walked unstably, bilateral strephenopodia, severe alopecia and paroxysmal bilateral upper limbs tremor without obvious muscle atrophy. Diagnostic whole-exome sequencing revealed a hemizygote missense mutation c.278 T > A in exon 2 of the GJB1 gene, with lysine at position 93 of the mature protein (p.M93K). This is the first CMT case with alopecia areata reported in the world.

CONCLUSIONS: We recommend the use of the SALT to assess the extent (0-100%) of scalp hair loss. Using the SALT assessment, the AA-IGA™ is a robust ordinal measure providing distinct and clinically meaningful gradations of scalp hair loss that reflects patients' and expert clinicians' perspectives and treatment expectations. ConclusionOur findings suggested different urinary polyamine, androgen, and bile acid concentrations between alopecia areata patients and normal controls. Additionally, levels of endogenous substances varied according to sex, and this should be considered when developing appropriate treatments and diagnostic techniques. Our findings improve our understanding of polyamine, androgen, and bile acid profiles in patients with alopecia areata and highlight the need to consider sex-related differences.
