In situ thermal ablation augments antitumor efficacy of adoptive T cell therapy.

Conclusions: These studies suggest that in addition to its role as a palliative therapeutic modality, RFA may have clinical potential as an immune-adjuvant therapy by augmenting the efficacy of adoptive T cell therapy. PMID: 31795828 [PubMed - in process]

A Streptomyces sp. (BRA-384) was selected among nine strains of bacteria isolated from the zoanthids Palythoa caribaeorum due to the high cytotoxic activity presented by its EtOAc extract (inhibitory concentration mean (IC50) of 2 ng mL-1) against colon cancer cell line. From the EtOAc extract of BRA-384 three new chemical entities (A6, A7 and A8) and one dextrorotatory chromomycin (A5), a promising class of anticancer compounds, were identified. The cytotoxicity of chromomycins A5 to A8 was tested against five tumor cell lines (HCT 116 (human colon adenocarcinoma), MCF-7 (human breast carcinoma), PC-3M (human metastatic p...

Abstract Myoferlin, a protein of the ferlin family, has seven C2 domains and exhibits activity in some cells, including myoblasts and endothelial cells. Recently, myoferlin was identified as a promising target and biomarker in non-small-cell lung cancer, breast cancer, pancreatic adenocarcinoma, hepatocellular carcinoma, colon cancer, melanoma, oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma, head and neck squamous cell carcinoma, clear cell renal cell carcinoma and endometrioid carcinoma. This evidence indicated that myoferlin was involved in the proliferation, invasion and migration of tumour cells, the mechanism of which...

This study assesses the antioxidant activity and immunomodulatory properties of the acidic polysaccharides extracted from Laminaria ochroleuca, Porphyra umbilicalis, and Gelidium corneum collected in the Atlantic coast of Tarifa (Cadiz, Spain). The proliferation of murine cell line RAW 264 decreased with increasing concentration of polysaccharides of the three algal species. The highest both antioxidant (25.69 μmol TE g-1 DW) and immunomodulatory activities were observed in the sulfated polysaccharides of L. ochroleuca compared to that of P. umbilicalis and G. corneum. Sulfated polysaccharides of L. ochro...

Authors: Ávila-Román J, Talero E, de Los Reyes C, Zubía E, Motilva V, García-Mauriño S Abstract Oxylipins are metabolites derived from lipid peroxidation. The plant oxylipin methyl jasmonate (MJ) shows cytotoxic activity against cancer cell lines of various origins, with ATP-depletion being one of the mechanisms responsible for this effect. The cytotoxic activity of oxylipins (OXLs) isolated from the microalgae Chlamydomonas debaryana (13-HOTE) and Nannochloropsis gaditana (15-HEPE) was higher against UACC-62 (melanoma) than towards HT-29 (colon adenocarcinoma) cells. OXLs lowered...

This study is an important step forward in highlighting C1q as a new prognostic candidate biomarker for a range of carcinomas. Methods Oncomine Database Analysis The expression levels of C1QA, C1QB, and C1QC genes in various carcinomas were analyzed using Oncomine (www.oncomine.org), a cancer microarray database and web-based data mining platform from genome-wide expression analyses (22, 23). We compared the differences in mRNA level between normal tissue and carcinoma. The mRNA expression levels in neoplastic tissues compared to the healthy tissues were obtained as the parameters of p-value 2, and gene ranking in the t...

In this study, we evaluated the therapeutic benefit of combining the TAB004 antibody with Liposomal-MSA-IL-2 in immune competent and human MUC1 transgenic (MUC1.Tg) mouse models of PDA and investigated the associated immune responses. Treatment with TAB004 + Lip-MSA-IL-2 resulted in significantly improved survival and slower tumor growth compared to controls in MUC1.Tg mice bearing an orthotopic PDA.MUC1 tumor. Similarly, in the spontaneous model of PDA that expresses human MUC1, the combination treatment stalled the progression of pancreatic intraepithelial pre-neoplastic (PanIN) lesion to adenocarcinoma. Treatment with t...

Conclusions and Future Perspectives It is now evident that NK/ILC family plays a pivotal role in the immune defenses. Recent studies in murine and human settings demonstrated that the expression of several inhibitory checkpoints, that may be detrimental in the tumor context, is not restricted to T lymphocytes, revealing an important, yet poorly appreciated, contribution of their expression on innate immune cells. Thus, in the recent years different immunotherapy approaches, based on the blockade of inhibitory NK cell receptors, have been developed in order to unleash NK cell cytotoxicity. This is particularly important in...
