Burden of disease: Prevalence and incidence of endstage renal disease in Middle Eastern countries.

CONCLUSION: There is a high CKD burden in the ME countries. There needs to be emphasis on prevention of ESRD and provision of adequate care for the total ESRD patient population. National renal registries are needed to monitor the status of ESRD patients. Health expenditures should be increased to cover all aspects of RRT in ME Countries. CONCLUSION: DM and kidney function affected energy and nutrient intakes. Subjects in the Late-CKD group consumed less energy than those in the Early-CKD group. Non-DM subjects seemed to restrict protein intake starting from the Early-CKD stage than subjects with DM. Subjects in this study had low energy and high sodium intakes compared with recommended levels. Protein intake was lower in advanced CKD patients, but their intake level was still higher than the recommendation. CONCLUSIONS: The combination of high ALP and low iPTH was independently associated with increased all-cause and cardiovascular mortality in PD patients, suggesting that ALP and iPTH have the potential to predict clinical outcomes and might be useful risk assessment tools in PD patients.
