Cyclin-dependent kinase 9 expression and its association with CD8+ T cell infiltration in microsatellite-stable colorectal cancer.

In conclusion, CDK9 may be utilized to evaluate the prognosis and the immune-type of the tumor microenvironment in patients with MSS mCRC. PMID: 31788079 [PubMed]

In conclusion, DNAM-1 or NKG2D over-expression elicited a dynamic increase in NK cell degranulation against all sarcoma explants and cancer cell lines tested, including those that failed to induce a notable response in WT NK-92 cells. These results support the broad therapeutic potential of DNAM-1+ or NKG2D+ GM NK-92 cells and GM human NK cells for the treatment of sarcomas and other malignancies.

Meaningful progress towards the control of cancer, ending it as a major threat to life and health, will be led by programs that can produce very broadly applicable treatments. That means therapies that can be applied to many (or even all) cancers with minimal differences in configuration or need for further per-cancer development. There are hundreds of cancer subtypes, but only so many researchers, and only so much funding for research and development: development of highly specific therapies is just not an effective path forward. Examples of the most promising lines of work with broad application include the OncoSe...

In conclusion, our results demonstrate that DCLK1 is linked with functional regulation of the tumor microenvironment and may have potential as a prognostic biomarker and adjuvant target to promote immunotherapy sensitivity in colon and gastric cancer patients.

Conclusions: Our data support that loss of Ffar2 signaling potentiates tumorigenesis via a “two-hit” model, first by gut barrier breach and then by immune cell dysfunction. Our work supports that altering Ffar2 signaling or neutralizing IL-27 represent potential immunotherapy CRC treatment strategies.

Brain, lung, and colon tissue experience deleterious immune-related adverse events when immune-oncological agents or radiation are administered. However, there is a paucity of information regarding whether the addition of radiation to immuno-oncological regimens exacerbates the tissue inflammatory response. We used a murine model to evaluate sub-acute tissue damage and the systemic immune response in C57Bl/6 mice when administered systemic anti-programmed cell death protein 1 (αPD-1) immunotherapy alone or in combination with stereotactic fractionated 10 gray/5 X-ray radiation to normal brain, lung or colon tissue. T...

Over the last few decades, the death rate from cancer dropped by 29% in the U.S., according to the latest data from the American Cancer Society (ACS). That, the ACS’s new study estimates, saved 2.9 million lives from 1991 to 2017, largely owing to declines in mortality from the four leading cancer types: lung, breast, prostate and colon. From 2016 to 2017—the latest year for which data are available—the overall cancer death rate declined by 2.2%, the largest single-year reduction ever recorded. These new figures were reported in a study published in CA: A Cancer Journal for Clinicians. The declines are a...

erlotka Lojkowski Antimitotics are important anticancer agents and include the natural alkaloid prodrug colchicine (COL). However, a major challenge of using COL as an anticancer drug is its cytotoxicity. We developed a novel drug delivery system (DDS) for COL using mesoporous silica nanoparticles (MSNs). The MSNs were functionalized with phosphonate groups, loaded with COL, and coated with folic acid chitosan-glycine complex. The resulting nanoformulation, called MSNsPCOL/CG-FA, was tested for action against cancer and normal cell lines. The anticancer effect was highly enhanced for MSNsPCOL/CG-FA compared to COL. ...
