Mobile Stroke Unit Care May Reduce Time to Thrombolysis

WEDNESDAY, Dec. 4, 2019 -- Mobile stroke unit (MSU) care is associated with quicker time to thrombolysis in acute ischemic stroke compared with conventional ambulance care in a densely populated urban area, according to a study published online Dec....

In this study, we investigated the role of the mitochondrial respiratory chain and the mitochondrial apoptotic pathway on the protective effect of Cordyceps sinensis extract (CSE) against cerebral ischemia injury both in vivo and in vitro. In a murine middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO) model, administration of CSE relieved neuronal morphological damage and attenuated the neuronal apoptosis. CSE also reduced neurobehavioral scores and oxygen free radical (OFR), while improving the levels of ATP, cytochrome c oxidase (COX), and mitochondrial complexes I-IV. Furthermore, the mRNA expression of Bax, cytochrome c (Cyt c) a...

Conclusion: Our study determined a promising outcome with reasonable good recanalization and clinical recovery for endovascular intervention in tandem ischemic. In the subgroup of treatment, “extracranial stent first” had more complex disease with completed ICA occlusion which required longer procedure time may lead to worse outcome.

ObjectivesCarotid artery geometry influences blood flow disturbances and is thus an important risk factor for carotid atherosclerosis. Extracellular matrix (ECM) and yes-associated protein (YAP) expression may play essential roles in the pathophysiology of carotid artery stenosis, but the effect of blood flow disturbances of carotid bifurcation location on the ECM is unknown. We hypothesized that carotid artery anatomy and geometry are independently associated with the ECM and YAP expression.MethodsIn this cross-sectional study, 193 patients were divided into two groups: an asymptomatic group (n = 111) and a symptomatic gr...

Background: Metabolome profiling is used to identify biomarkers for acute ischemic stroke (AIS). Previous studies compared metabolite profiles in AIS and healthy controls, which did not account for factors that affect metabolome (genetics, medications). This pilot project evaluates the change in metabolite concentrations between the acute and chronic stage of stroke in the same cohort in order to minimize other factors impact. Methods: We performed global metabolome profile on serum of 20 and urine of 12 stroke patients in acute (72 hours) and chronic (3-5.2 months) stage and compared relative peak values using Wilcoxon an...

To compare the performance of Frontier Alberta Stroke Program Early CT Score (ASPECTS) software with different levels of radiologists in assessing computed tomography (CT) examinations of patients with early acute ischaemic stroke (AIS), and to evaluate whether this software can improve the performance of rating by less experienced radiologists.

ConclusionThe prevalence of the PEX increased significantly with age. The risk of the PEX was significantly higher among persons with IHD and even higher among persons with IHD and stroke. In the future, a greater understanding of the cardiovascular, metabolic, and environmental components associated with the PEX may lead to more specific lifestyle-related preventive strategies to decrease the disease burden.
