Bridging the Communication Gap: A Quality Improvement Project of a Ventricular Assist Device Program.
CONCLUSION: Implementation of the LVAD Emergency Line has improved communication between patients in the outpatient setting. This increased patient safety by allowing patients to speak to LVAD-trained first responders and VAD coordinator personnel immediately without ever being put on hold. This communication process can be applied to other clinical programs. PMID: 31789980 [PubMed - in process]
This study provides strong evidence that following a healthy lifestyle can substantially extend the years a person lives disease-free." Commentary on Recent Evidence for Cognitive Decline to Precede Amyloid Aggregation in Alzheimer's Disease https://www.fightaging.org/archives/2020/01/commentary-on-recent-evidence-for-cognitive-decline-to-precede-amyloid-aggregation-in-alzheimers-disease/ I can't say that I think the data presented in the research noted here merits quite the degree of the attention that it has been given in the popular science press. It is interesting, but not compelling if its role...
ConclusionsThis multimodal imaging offers unique educational value for medical students, clinicians, and medical device designers for improving transplantation techniques and patient outcomes.
THE UNITED Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS) adopted the label “high risk” from the Public Health Service (PHS) in 2004 in order to improve organ safety by reducing disease transmission. This has resulted in nonutilization of organs from patients who are otherwise healthy but deemed high risk because of social behaviors or illicit drug use. Organ availabili ty remains the limiting factor to organ transplantation, and the number of patients awaiting transplantation is outpacing the number of transplantations being performed.
Bradley Harrison, 10 months old, of South Shields, has a complex set of heart defects. Doctors revealed his lungs were starved of oxygen which was causing him to turn blue when he cried.
In this study, we investigated the link between AF and senescence markers through the assessment of protein expression in the tissue lysates of human appendages from patients in AF, including paroxysmal (PAF) or permanent AF (PmAF), and in sinus rhythm (SR). The major findings of the study indicated that the progression of AF is strongly related to the human atrial senescence burden as determined by p53 and p16 expression. The stepwise increase of senescence (p53, p16), prothrombotic (TF), and proremodeling (MMP-9) markers observed in the right atrial appendages of patients in SR, PAF, and PmAF points toward multiple inter...
Study Design. Retrospective database review Objective. The aim of this study was to analyze the implications of solid organ transplant (SOT) on postoperative outcomes following elective one or two-level anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF). Summary of Background Data. Although SOTs have been associated with increased morbidity, postoperative outcomes in SOT recipients undergoing cervical spinal surgery are not well studied. Methods. A retrospective database review of Medicare patients younger than 85 years who underwent an elective one to two-level ACDF from 2006-2013 was conducted. Following our exclu...
ConclusionDLT followed by percutaneous ASD closure is an efficient therapeutic approach in patients with end-stage ASD associated PAH that may offer an alternative option to HLT.
