The N.W.T’s Health and Social Services Authority is launching the Adult Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) Diagnostic Clinic, which is expected to open in February 2020.

This study provides the first mechanistic and functional evidence that alcohol impairs glutamate-regulated activity of pial microvessels. Endothelial dysfunction is characterized by altered metalloproteinase activity and interneuron mispositioning, which was also observed in a fetus with fetal alcohol syndrome. These data suggest that alcohol-induced endothelial dysfunction may contribute in ectopic cortical GABAergic interneurons, that has previously been described in infants with FASD. The objective of this work was to generate a treatment algorithm for the use of psychopharmacological agents specifically for individuals with ND-PAE/FASD. CONCLUSIONS: Together, these findings shed light on the multifactorial basis of alcohol-induced craniofacial defects. In addition to further implicating genetic disruption of the Hh pathway in alcohol teratogenicity, our findings suggest that co-exposure to environmental chemicals that perturb Hh signaling may be important variables in FASD and related craniofacial disorders. Conclusion: This case shows that FAD should be considered in neonates with rare neurological diseases as porencephaly. In neonates and infants born to a mother who did not report alcohol use, EtG measure in hairs can significantly improve diagnosis of FASD, so allowing to exclude genetic diseases associated with similar clinical findings.
