Scutellarin Exerts Anti-Inflammatory Effects in Activated Microglia/Brain Macrophage in Cerebral Ischemia and in Activated BV-2 Microglia Through Regulation of MAPKs Signaling Pathway

ConclusionsThe results suggest that scutellarin down-regulates the expression of proinflammatory mediators in AM/BM through suppressing the p-JNK and p-p38 MAPKs. Of note, the anti-inflammatory effect of p38 MAPK inhibitor and scutellarin is comparable. Besides, p38 MAPKs activator reverses the effect of scutellarin. Additionally, scutellarin increases p-ERK1/2 expression that may be neuroprotective.

Conclusions: This is an institution-based, detailed, and descriptive epidemiological study of patients with primary CNS tumors in Saudi Arabia. In contrast to other regional and international studies, the medulloblastomas in our institution are more frequent than pilocytic astrocytomas. (ECOG-ACRIN Cancer Research Group) Patient-reported data from TAILORx, the largest ever breast cancer treatment trial, shows three key findings: 1) women on chemotherapy plus hormone therapy reported early and abrupt cognitive decline at 3 and 6 months, that leveled off at 12 and 36 months; 2) women on hormone therapy also reported significant cognitive impairment, although the pace of decline was slower and more gradual; and 3) cognitive function did not return to pre-treatment levels in either group.

CONCLUSIONS: The size distributions of untreated brain metastases favor a power law distribution. This finding suggests that metastases do not exist in isolation, but rather as part of a complex system. Furthermore, these results suggest that there may be a relatively small number of underlying variables that substantially influence the behavior of these systems. The identification of these variables could have a profound effect on our understanding of these lesions and our ability to treat them.
