This infant was born at 34 weeks 5 days estimated gestational age secondary to premature rupture of membranes. Prenatal history was unremarkable with negative infectious serologies, including herpes simplex virus (HSV), and normal anatomy scan at 20 weeks ’ gestation. In the delivery room, vesicular lesions were noted that quickly denuded leaving behind erythematous plaques (Figure 1A). In the delivery room, the infant displayed myoclonic movements. When an EEG was recorded, the aforementioned movements had no electrographic correlate.

Purpose: To report the clinical outcome and postoperative course of Descemet membrane endothelial keratoplasty (DMEK) in irreversible corneal edema due to herpes simplex virus (HSV) endotheliitis. Methods: This is a retrospective, noncomparative, interventional case series. Nineteen eyes of 19 patients underwent standard DMEK combined with cataract surgery (triple DMEK) between May 2016 and April 2018. All patients received perioperative oral acyclovir (ACV) and prednisolone. Patients were followed up on day 1, on day 7, at 1 month, and then at 3 monthly intervals. Preoperative and postoperative best spectacle-correct...

Abstract Zoonotic monkey B virus (Macacine alphaherpesvirus 1; BV) infections are extremely serious and usually fatal. Drugs currently used for treatment were developed for the treatment of herpes simplex virus but are less effective against BV. Effective suppression of viral replication in the skin could prevent the virus from invading the nervous system. To test this hypothesis, the efficacy of topical administration of several drugs against lethal BV infection was evaluated in female BALB/c mice that were infected by scarification. Drugs were then applied to the site of inoculation. As 3% preparations, most dru...

AbstractA new long chain, multifidione (1), together with seven known lathyrane-type diterpenes, 15-epi-4Z-jatrogrossidentadion (2), 4Z-jatrogrossidentadion (3), 2-epi-hydroxy isojatrogrossidentadion (4), 2-hydroxyisojatrogrossidentadion (5), 4E-jatrogrossidentadion (6), 15-epi-4E-jatrogrossidentadion (7), and jatrogrossidion (8), was isolated from the roots ofJatropha multifida L. The chemical structure of this new compound was elucidated by spectroscopic techniques. The known compounds were identified by comparison of the spectroscopic and physical data with those of reported values. The isolated all compounds were evalu...
