When I moved from country to country, I kept friends and relatives close through recipes, each morsel an ode to remembrance.

Abstract When breeding females compete for limited resources, the intensity of this reproductive conflict can determine whether the fitness benefits of current reproductive effort exceed the potential costs to survival and future fertility. In group-living species, reproductive competition can occur through post-natal competition among the offspring of co-breeding females. Spontaneous abortion could be a response to such competition, allowing females to curtail reproductive expenditure on offspring that are unlikely to survive and to conserve resources for future breeding opportunities. We tested this hypothesis u...

Authors: Yang DN, Wu JH, Geng L, Cao LJ, Zhang QJ, Luo JQ, Kallen A, Hou ZH, Qian WP, Shi Y, Xia X Abstract This meta-analysis was intended to evaluate the effects of intrauterine perfusion of peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC) on the pregnancy outcomes including clinical pregnancy rates, embryo implantation rates, live birth rates and miscarriage rates of infertile women who were undergoing in vitro fertilisation (IVF) treatment. By searching Pubmed, Embase database, five articles meeting the inclusion criteria were included, and 1173 women were enrolled (intrauterine PBMC group: n = 514; NO-P...

This study questioned whether raised pre-pregnancy two-hour (2 h) insulin levels, measured in recurrent embryonic miscarriage (RM) patients via a 75 g Oral Glucose Tolerance Test (OGTT), are associated with an increased risk of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) in a subsequent pregnancy. Patients had a 75 g OGTT and insulin levels evaluated (n = 170). 54.1% had normal glucose and insulin levels, 45.9% had levels indicating hyperinsulinism (HI). In the 98 patients who achieved a pregnancy, the prevalence of GDM was 3.7% in those without HI, and 35.7% in the patients who only had raised 2...

A 40-year-old multiparous woman presented with a 3-year history of secondary infertility after undergoing surgical management of miscarriage. Of note, she had a previous Caesarean section five years previously. She since described a history of light menstrual flow, subjectively incomplete menstruation and bloating. A hysterosalpingogram (HSG) revealed a large Caesarean scar defect with fistulation into the peritoneal cavity (Figure 1), which was confirmed with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).

AbstractHere, as a basic study in revealing the correlation between extracellular matrix components and spontaneous abortion, we defined the types of integrins expressed on the surface of endometrial stromal (ES) cells retrieved from the uterus of a patient experiencing spontaneous abortion. For these, the types of integrin subunits in the ES cells retrieved from a woman with spontaneous abortion were identified at the transcriptional and translational levels, and functional assay was conducted for confirming the combinations of integrin α and β subunits. Among the genes encoding 25 integrin subunits, significan...

For over 2 decades preimplantation genetic testing (PGT) has been in clinical use to reduce the risk of miscarriage and genetic disease in patients with advanced maternal age and risk of transmitting disease. Recently developed methods of genome-wide genotyping and machine learning algorithms now offer the ability to genotype embryos for polygenic disease risk with accuracy equivalent to adults. In addition, contemporary studies on adults indicate the ability to predict polygenic disorders with risk equivalent to monogenic disorders. Existing biobanks provide opportunities to model the clinical utility of polygenic disease...

Conclusionshp-HMG and rFSH did not lead to significantly different treatment outcomes in POR patients undergoing IVF/ISCI with a GnRH antagonist protocol, although significantly higher serum IGF-1 level and insignificantly lower serum IGFBP-1 level on the day of oocyte retrieval associated with hp-HMG might suggest a beneficial endocrine environment.
