Trabecular bone score and bone quantitative ultrasound in Spanish postmenopausal women. The Camargo cohort study
The measurement of bone mineral density (BMD) along with the verification of the presence of fragility fractures are the diagnostic criteria for osteoporosis. In addition, BMD, which is usually determined by dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA), allows the estimation of the risk of osteoporotic fracture. In 1994, a World Health Organization study group defined osteoporosis as a BMD T-score of -2.5 or less [1]. However, more than 50% of fragility fractures occur in women with a BMD T-score above -2.5 [2,3].
