The purpose of this program is to reduce prescription drug misuse and abuse by providing healthcare providers with access to PDMP data to make sound clinical decisions without disturbing their regular clinical workflow. Providing resources to states to enable hospital emergency department EHRs, primary care facility EHRs, and retail store pharmacy dispensing systems to link electronically to PDMPs will facilitate increased utilization.
