The Utility of Endosonography for Mediastinal Staging of Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer in Patients with Radiological N0 Disease
Accurate assessment of mediastinal lymph node (LN) involvement is of paramount importance during treatment decision-making for patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) who lack distant metastases [1]. The initial investigation usually features computed tomography (CT), and positron emission tomography integrated with CT (PET-CT). Given the low pooled diagnostic sensitivities of chest CT (55%) and PET-CT (62%), abnormal findings evident from noninvasive testing should be examined via invasive mediastinal staging such as endosonography or mediastinoscopy [2].
