In this study, the underlying mechanism of nitrite on the susceptibility of tilapia leucocytes to Streptococcus agalactiae (S. agalactiae) was studied. We found that a high dose of heat-killed S. agalactiae decreased tilapia leucocytes cell viability, whereas nitrite decreased the cell viability of leucocytes exposed to a low dose of bacteria. Bacterial challenge increased the production of nitric oxide (NO), whereas nitrite and bacteria coexposure caused higher NO production than nitrite or bacterial exposure alone. Cell viability increased after elimination of NO, and negative correlations existed between cell viability ...

CONCLUSIONS: Primary ocular toxoplasmosis presenting in adulthood is a relatively uncommon cause of posterior uveitis in New Zealand. This condition should be considered in any patient presenting with retinitis or optic nerve inflammation without a retinochoroidal scar. This disease tends to relapse; thus, close follow-up is required. PMID: 31833248 [PubMed - in process]

Conclusion: The rate of scabies recurrence among adult patients in Saudi Arabia was high, and is comparable with previous report in Japan. The study suggests that male gender, first tertile, and high humidity were independently associated with the high rate of scabies recurrences among adults. An interventional program to lower the rate of scabies recurrences and prevent outbreak should be undertaken. PMID: 31828279 [PubMed - in process]

Abstract In 2018, a hepatitis A virus outbreak was identified among internally displaced persons in Syria. Sequence analysis based on the viral protein 1/2 junction revealed that the causative virus belonged to genotype IB. A high displacement rate, deteriorated sanitary and health conditions, and poor water quality likely contributed to this outbreak. PMID: 31829918 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

ConclusionsThis study provides initial perspectives on measles preparedness among Idaho CAHs, despite limited generalizability. Future studies should explore whether self-reported preparedness measures reflect the ability of the CAHs to control measles spread when cases present for care.
