Clinical value of the parameters of microcirculation in bronchial asthma in children

Aim: to determine the value of the parameters of microcirculation (MC) in children with bronchial asthma (BA) and acute obstructive bronchitis (AOB).Methods: 78 children aged from 2 to 17 years with the mild BA in exacerbation or incomplete remission (group (Gr) 1) and 20 children of the same age with AOB (Gr2) were examined. Catamnesis lasted from 6 to 18 months. The control group (C) included 60 healthy children. All patients underwent examination and computerized nailfold capillaroscopy (NCS).Results: It was found that patients of Gr1 in contrast to Gr2 and C, were characterized by deformation of all parts of the capillaries: a decrease in the diameter of the arterial part of the capillaries and the unevenness of the caliber of the capillaries (Nkc) (0.89 [0.88-0.90] conv.units, 0.92 [0.89-0.93] conv.units and 0.94 [0.917-0.967] conv.units, respectively; p<0.05); an increase in the tortuosity of all parts of the capillaries (p<0.05) and the length of the perivascular areas (L) (117.5 [115.0-119.0] µm; 108.3 [106.2-113.6] µm and 102.9 [99.6-109.1] µm, respectively; p<0.05). The patients of Gr2 compared with Gr1 and C, observed less pronounced MC changes mainly in department of the venous part of the capillaries in the form of increasing diameter and reducing the unevenness of the caliber of this part capillaries. These changes indicate a significantly more pronounced the tension of adaptive mechanisms of MC in BA compared with AOB. High diagnostic...
