Pneumomediastinum in children: a rare entity?
Conclusion: The diagnosis of pneumomediastinum in pediatrics requires a high index of suspicion, careful clinical evaluation and should be considered in children with acute chest pain. The clinical diagnosis is complemented by chest X-ray. It presents frequently benign evolution, being rare the relapse. The increasing description in the literature, especially of spontaneous cases (Hammam Syndrome) suggests that this condition was being underdiagnosed.
