Dulin, Elizaveta A. KlimanovaAbstractWith an exception of few reports, the plasma concentration of ouabain and marinobufagenin, mostly studied cardiotonic steroids (CTS) assessed by immunoassay techniques, is less than 1 nM. During the last 3 decades, the implication of these endogenous CTS in the pathogenesis of hypertension and other volume-expanded disorders is widely disputed. The threshold for inhibition by CTS of human an...

We report a case of malignant non-neural-type GCT in the lungs.A 77-year-old woman felt chest discomfort and dyspnea in July 2019. She had never smoked and had no medical history other than hypertension and diabetes mellitus. She was initially evaluated at a local hospital. Flexible bronchoscopy showed total occlusion of the right main bronchus by a mass-like lesion. Biopsy of the mass lesion revealed chronic inflammation. The patient visited for re-evaluation in September 2019. Rigid bronchoscopy showed worsening of the total obstruction of the right main bronchus by a tumor mass, such that the carina was not visible. Addi...

Authors: Akagi S, Miki T, Sando Y, Fujii N, Sarashina T, Nakamura K, Ito H Abstract Chronic-active Epstein-Barr virus infection (CAEBV) is a rare disease that can lead to pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH). However, the treatment for CAEBV-associated PAH has not been established. We discuss a case of improved pulmonary hypertension after chemotherapy in a patient with CAEBV-associated PAH. A 44-year old man was admitted to our hospital because of an abnormal electrocardiogram and liver dysfunction detected by annual medical examination. Echocardiography showed a dilated right ventricle and an estimated right ven...

Authors: Liu SH, Lai CT, Chen HR, Lin WL, Yamada S, Lugtu IC, Chou YH, Yang CCH, Kuo TB, Chen SA, Lo LW Abstract Sleep and estrogen levels have an impact on neural regulation and are associated with cardiovascular (CV) events. We investigated the effects of estrogen on heart rate variability (HRV) and circadian cycle in spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHRs). Polysomnographic recording was performed in seven male and seven female SHRs during sleep. The electroencephalogram (EEG) and electromyogram (EMG) were evaluated to define active waking (AW), quiet sleep (QS), and paradoxical sleep (PS) stages. Cardiac activit...
