Statement to the Randolph County (NC) Commissioners Regarding a Taxpayer " Bail-Out " of Randolph Hospital
You get tired of playing the game - or banging your head against stone walls. For weeks, I have been resolved to appear at tonight ' sPublic Hearing at the old Asheboro Courthouse - in which Randolph County Commissioners will take up the matter of going into massive debt (by applying for a loan from the state) to keep Randolph Health from closing its doors in late January or February.But I cannot . . . and will not even try to . . . cram 22 years into 3 minutes. I can actually make the statement in 8 or 9 minutes, but not 3. The hospital has pontificated from its various soapboxes and manipulated the media (and its own employees) for months - in my opinion, trying to push City and County leaders into a corner. They ' ve had all the time in the world to come up with a solution, but in the end are appearing to beg for money and a bail-out. It ' s nauseating. Especially knowing what I know - which I will endeavor to share here. Every sitting City Council member and County Commissioner has some inkling of what I ' ve endured because of this hospital. After the show the hospital has put on for months on end, a genuinely fair game would allow me to say my un-interrupted peace. But this game has never been fair. And I am done jumping through imaginary/arbitrary hoops (showing up early/rounding up others to cede time/etc.) in order to say what I ' ve earned the right to say . . . arguably more than anyone who will ...
