Aggression is a ubiquitous social behavior that is also one of the most frequent reasons for referrals of children and adolescents to mental health services. Within psychiatric classification, aggression and related maladaptive behaviors, such as defiance and anger outbursts, represent the core symptoms of disruptive behavior disorders as well as a common associated feature across a wide range of psychiatric conditions. Childhood aggression also contributes to concurrent and long-term impairment in social and adaptive functioning and poses a considerable burden on families and society.
