Free breathing three-dimensional cardiac quantitative susceptibility mapping for differential cardiac chamber blood oxygenation – initial validation in patients with cardiovascular disease inclusive of direct comparison to invasive catheterization

Differential blood oxygenation between left (LV) and right ventricles (RV; ΔSaO2) is a key index of cardiac performance; LV dysfunction yields increased RV blood pool deoxygenation. Deoxyhemoglobin increases bloo...

Introduction: Emergency medical services (EMS) systems exist to provide prehospital care in diverse environments throughout the world. Advanced Life Support (ALS) services can provide advanced care including 12-lead electrocardiogram (ECG), endotracheal intubation and parenteral medication administration. Basic Life Support (BLS) can provide basic care such as splinting, wound care and cardiopulmonary resuscitation. ALS can release patients to BLS for transport to the hospital, and this is an area of high risk. Our study examines patients who were triaged and admitted to a critical care location, including an intensive car...

AbstractAimsThe PREPARE ‐MVR study (PRediction of Early PostoperAtive Right vEntricular failure in Mitral Valve repair (MVR) and to explore the associations between/Repair patients) sought to investigate the alterations of right ventricular (RV) contraction pattern in patients undergoing mitral valve replacement/repair ( MVR) and to explore the associations between pre‐operative RV mechanics and early post‐operative RV dysfunction (RVD).Methods and resultsWe prospectively enrolled 42 patients (63  ± 11 years, 69% men) undergoing open‐heart MVR. Transthoracic three‐dimensional (3D) echocardio...

Conclusions: MCT-RVfib manifest a DNMT1-HIF-1α-PDK-mediated, chamber-specific, metabolic memory that promotes collagen production and RV fibrosis. This epigenetic mitochondrial-metabolic pathway is a potential antifibrotic therapeutic target. PMID: 32216531 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Authors: Rogers JD, Piorkowski C, Sohail MR, Anand R, Kowalski M, Rosemas S, Stromberg K, Sanders P Abstract Background: Previous studies support operational benefits when moving insertable cardiac monitor (ICM) insertions outside the cardiac catheterization/electrophysiology laboratories, but this has not been directly assessed in a randomized trial or when the procedure is specifically moved to the office setting. To gain insight, the RIO 2 US study collected resource utilization and procedure time intervals for ICM insertion in-office and in-hospital and these data were used to calculate costs associated ...

DISCUSSION: Our study did not show any significant difference in terms of haemodynamic changes during exercise between a group of patients under specific PH treatment exposed to cigarette smoke and a group unexposed. Endothelial dysfunction induced by smoke exposure does not appear to have a major impact on the response to the specific PH treatment. PMID: 32199735 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]
