By SAURABH JHA, MD Slumdog TB No one knows who gave Rahul Roy tuberculosis. Roy’s charmed life as a successful trader involved traveling in his Mercedes C class between his apartment on the plush Nepean Sea Road in South Mumbai and offices in Bombay Stock Exchange. He cared little for Mumbai’s weather. He seldom rolled down his car windows – his ambient atmosphere, optimized for his comfort, rarely changed. Historically TB, or “consumption” as it was known, was a Bohemian malady; the chronic suffering produced a rhapsody which produced fine art. TB was fashionable in Victorian Britain...

ConclusionsOur study provides the first insight into molecular epidemiology of MDR-TB in Kuwait and identified several potential clusters of local transmission of MDR-TB involving 2 –6 subjects which had escaped detection by routine surveillance studies. Prospective detection of resistance-conferring mutations can identify possible cases of local transmission of MDR-TB in low MDR-TB settings.

RivièreAbstractDisease surveillance systems’ effectiveness relies on participants following prescribed practices. We developed a general method to improve a previous cost-effectiveness evaluation of three French screening program protocols for bovine tuberculosis (bTB) to account for the practices of participants by scenario tree modelling. This method relies on: 1) semi-directive interviews of participants to identify the variability of practices and p...

Abstract Reprogramming differentiated cells into induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) consists in dedifferentiation of the cells into the pluripotent state, i.e., stem cells. Since T cells play a pivotal role in our immune system, T cell reprogramming into iPSCs and subsequent redifferentiation of iPSCs toward the original cells hold a great promise for future cell therapy and for further exploring the biology of such T cells. Mucosal-associated invariant T (MAIT) cells are an innate-like T cells linking innate immunity to adaptive immunity, and believed to be implicated in host protection to infection, in infla...
