Acoustic-resolution-based photoacoustic microscopy with non-coaxial arrangements and a multiple vertical scan for high lateral resolution in-depth

In conventional acoustic-resolution-based photoacoustic microscopy (ARPAM), a focused ultrasound transducer is placed coaxially with the ...

ConclusionsOur results suggest that hyperostosis of the posterior longitudinal ligament in OPLL may not be associated with bone strength and bone mineral status at the extremities.

The objective of the present study was to evaluate the beneficial effect of endorectal power Doppler/grayscale ultrasound-guided biopsy over that of mpMRI/TRUS-guided biopsy for decision-making regarding prostatectomy in males with a high risk of prostate cancer. Data regarding endorectal power Doppler/grayscale ultrasound-guided biopsies and mpMRI/TRUS-guided biopsies of 1,094 males with elevated specific prostate antigen, were included. Radical prostatectomy was performed in males aged

Authors: Guo L, Chen B, Zhang L, Deng Y, Li H, Shi QD Abstract A 49-year-old female patient developed chest tightness and shortness of breath without apparent cause and presented to a local hospital. Chest radiography indicated increased thickening of the lung texture, increased multiple patchy densities in the lower lobes of the bilateral lungs and a slightly enlarged thyroid. The patient was treated for pulmonary infection with antibiotics but the symptoms persisted. A repeated CT scan revealed ground-glass attenuation of the bilateral lungs with multiple flaky exudates and visible bronchogenic signs. The symptom...

A 63-year-old man with elevated prostate-specific antigen serum levels and enlarged prostate gland underwent ultrasound-guided transrectal biopsy, which did not reveal any evidence of malignancy. In order to help guidance of repeat biopsy, 68Ga–prostate-specific membrane antigen–targeted ligand PET (PSMA PET/CT) was ordered. PET/CT scan showed no abnormal PSMA expression within the prostate gland. There were, however, multiple PSMA-expressing osteolytic lesions throughout the axial skeleton. Bone lesion biopsy obtained for final workup revealed multiple solitary plasmacytomas with multifocal bone involvement. T...

Publication date: Available online 6 December 2019Source: Food Research InternationalAuthor(s): Liping Guo, Yongcai Sun, Yinglian Zhu, Baowei Wang, Lin Xu, Ming Huang, Yufeng Li, Jingxin SunAbstractIn the present study, the action mechanism of ultrasound (US) combined with sodium hypochlorite (SH) against Escherichia coli was illustrated by different analysis, including reduction, particle size distribution, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), K+ leakage, confocal laser scanning microscopy (CLSM) and fluorescence spectroscopy of Escherichia coli. The results showed that ultrasound im...

AbstractPsoriatic disease (PsD) is a multisystem inflammatory disorder with a high prevalence of cardiovascular (CV) risk factors contributing to accelerated atherosclerosis and its sequelae. Imaging studies, notably with ultrasound, computed tomography, and positron emission tomography (PET) scanning have confirmed significant atherosclerotic change with plaque formation and vessel stenosis. Atherosclerosis is likely driven by a combination of traditional risk factors which occur more frequently in PsD and by systemic inflammation with associated pro-inflammatory cytokine production. While the mechanisms driving atheroscl...

This study was conducted in the ED of an academic teaching hospital in Miami, Florida. It consisted of a short in-service educational intervention on how to perform and interpret POCUS, followed by an open, prospective convenience sample study in patients with clinical suspicion of shoulder dislocation. Twenty EM residents, with no prior shoulder scanning training, participated in the study. In all of the cases, the findings of the shoulder US were compared with radiographs, which were considered the reference standard. EM residents enrolled patients, and obtained and interpreted the shoulder US images. RESULTS: Sevent...

Authors: Størup G, Sørensen AN, Dalsgaard A, Grønkjær M Abstract INTRODUCTION: For decades, ultrasound has enabled determination of foetal sex. Foetal sex is medically indicated in sex-linked diseases, syndromes and multiple pregnancy, but genital malformations are rare. However, guidelines on standard views seem sparse and foetal sex determination is not considered mandatory. The aim of this study was to provide an initial overview on the practice of foetal sex determination in Denmark and the accuracy of the examinations at the second trimester anomaly scan at a regional and a universit...

CONCLUSIONS: In 42 cases of angular pregnancy diagnosed by first-trimester ultrasound examination, outcomes were largely positive, with an 80% live-birth rate and a 20% early pregnancy loss rate. Early diagnosis of angular pregnancy using the described criteria may represent an entity that more closely resembles a normal, noneccentric intrauterine pregnancy rather than an ectopic pregnancy. Therefore, most cases can be closely observed and efforts made to expectantly manage pregnancies while awaiting viability. PMID: 31809430 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

AbstractIn September 2019, NICE published updated guidance on the management of multiple pregnancy (NG 137). Many of the previous recommendations for care are upheld but there have been important changes: increased frequency of combined ultrasound/specialist antenatal care appointments for pregnancies containing a monochorionic placenta (twins and triplets), increased frequency of ultrasound monitoring in all triplet pregnancies, changes in the definition of selective growth restriction and for its subsequent referral pathways, the introduction of some monitoring for TAPS in monochorionic pregnancies (albeit in complex pre...
