Polyacrylonitrile/polyethylene glycol phase-change material fibres prepared with hybrid polymer blends and nano-SiC fillers via centrifugal spinning

However, the practical applications of electrospinning are limited by its low productivity and potential safety hazards. Herein, a simple centrifugal spinning without the drawbacks of electrospinning was applied to fabricate polyethylene glycol-based PCM fibres with nano-SiC as a highly conductive filler, polyacrylonitrile as the supporting material, and N,N-dimethylformamide as the solvent to dissolve the polymers. Results demonstrate that the PCM fibres were formed by physical combination rather than chemical reaction. The shapes of the PCM fibres remained stable during the phase-change process. Based on differential scanning calorimetry, PAN/PEG/SiC PCM fibres containing 4.0 wt% nano-SiC melted at 51.31 °C with a phase-change latent heat of 69.91 J/g. The thermal conductivity of PAN/PEG/SiC PCM fibres was improved by 79% compared to that of PAN/PEG PCM fibres. The good thermophysical properties of the prepared PAN/PEG/SiC PCM fibres show promise for long-term utilization.Graphical abstract

Primary leiomyosarcoma of the bronchus is an extremely rare malignant neoplasm. A 29-year-old man presented with persisting cough and sputum over 1 month. Unenhanced and contrast-enhanced chest CT showed a nodular lesion in the main bronchus of the left lower lobe and multiple enlarged lymph nodes in the mediastinum. Preoperative staging 18F-FDG PET/CT scan displayed a hypermetabolic lesion of the known nodule and mild FDG uptake of mediastinal lymph nodes. The histological examination confirmed bronchial leiomyosarcoma and reactive hyperplasia in lymph nodes.

A 57-year-old man, on octreotide treatment for metastatic neuroendocrine tumor pancreas, was referred for whole-body 68Ga-DOTANOC PET/CT scan to evaluate treatment response. Multimodality imaging was performed on a 53-year-old woman who was suspected with malignant bone tumor in her left femoral midshaft on radiograph. A 6-year-old girl with high-risk neuroblastoma underwent a 123I-MIBG scan to monitor the disease status. In addition to the known lesion in the right retroperitoneal region, there were additional foci of increased activity in the right upper quadrate of the abdomen, which were not typical bowel activity. SPECT/CT images located the activity in the cortex of the lower pole of the right kidney, which was partially calcified. Subsequent biopsy confirmed neuroblastoma metastasis to the right kidney, which is extremely rare.

A 63-year-old man with elevated prostate-specific antigen serum levels and enlarged prostate gland underwent ultrasound-guided transrectal biopsy, which did not reveal any evidence of malignancy.
