Detection of TGF- β in pleural effusions for diagnosis and prognostic stratification of malignant pleural mesothelioma
Malignant pleural mesothelioma, a rare and highly aggressive malignancy originating from the pleural mesothelium, is associated with dismal median overall survival (OS) of less than 12 months following diagnosis [1,2]. Rising incidence and lack of effective therapies underline the urgent need for novel biomarkers to guide diagnostic workup in high-risk individuals and to identify MPM patients at risk prior to personalized treatment [3].
