A seven long-noncoding RNA signature predicts prognosis of lung squamous cell carcinoma.

This study profiled differentially expressed long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) in lung squamous cell carcinoma (LSCC) to predict LSCC overall survival (OS) using The Cancer Genome Atlas data. Materials &methods: The RNA-seq and clinical dataset of 475 LSCC patients was retrieved from The Cancer Genome Atlas database and statistically analyzed. Results: There were 67 upregulated and 32 downregulated lncRNAs in LSCCs and 12 lncRNAs associated with OS. The seven-lncRNA signature was associated with poor OS and RP11-150O12.6 and CTA-384D8.35 were associated with better OS (p

ConclusionsDefining the role of RT in the management of BCC and cSCC has been hindered by a lack of high-quality evidence. This document synthesizes available evidence to define practice guidelines for the most common clinical situations. We encourage practitioners to enroll patients in prospective trials and to approach care in a multidisciplinary fashion whenever possible.

Authors: Anqi C, Takabatake K, Kawai H, Oo MW, Yoshida S, Fujii M, Omori H, Sukegawa S, Nakano K, Tsujigiwa H, Jinhua Z, Nagatsuka H Abstract The stroma affects the properties and dynamics of the tumor. Previous studies have demonstrated that bone marrow-derived cells (BMDCs) possess the capability of differentiating into stromal cells. However, the characteristics and roles of BMDCs in oral squamous cell carcinoma remain unclear. The current study therefore investigated their locations and features by tracing green fluorescent protein (GFP)-labeled BMDCs in a transplantation mouse model. After irradiation, BALB-c ...

Authors: Suzuki-Inoue K Abstract Patients with cancer have an increased risk of thromboembolism, which is the second leading cause of death in these patients. Several mechanisms of the prothrombotic state in these patients have been proposed. Among them are a platelet activation receptor, C-type lectin-like receptor 2 (CLEC-2), and its endogenous ligand podoplanin, which are the focus of this review. CLEC-2 is almost specifically expressed in platelets/megakaryocytes in humans. A membrane protein, podoplanin is expressed in certain types of cancer cells, including squamous cell carcinoma, brain tumor, and osteosarc...

Authors: Liu X, Cao Y, Zhang Y, Zhou H, Li H Abstract OBJECTIVE: Oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) is a common tumor of head and neck cancer. MiR-103 is involved in several tumors. However, the role and mechanism of miR103 in OSCC remain unclear. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Oral cancer Tca8113 cells were cultured in vitro and randomly divided into control group, miR-103 mimics group, and miR-103 inhibitor group, followed by analysis of miR-103 expression by Real Time-PCR, SALL4 expression by Real Time-PCR and Western blot, cell survival by MTT assay, and cell invasion by transwell chamber assay on tumor. Real Time...

Abstract Autophagy, a highly conserved cellular proteolysis process, has been involved in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). We tried to develop a prognostic prediction model for NSCLC patients based on the expression profiles of autophagy-associated genes. Univariate Cox regression analysis was used to determine autophagy-associated genes significantly correlated with overall survival (OS) of the TCGA lung cancer cohort. LASSO regression was performed to build multiple-gene prognostic signatures. We found that the 22-gene and 11-gene signatures could dichotomize patients with significantly different OS and indep...

Authors: Durkova J, Boldis M, Kovacova S Abstract Over the course of the last two decades, there has been a decrease in the incidence of head and neck cancers thanks to a decreasing prevalence of smoking. However, a new risk factor has been coming to the fore: human papillomavirus infection (HPV). HPV-positive oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (HPV+OPC) is more sensitive to chemotherapy and radiotherapy, which translates to a much better prognosis with conventional treatment protocols than tumours that are HPV-negative. Traditional therapeutic interventions are associated with substantial morbidity and have a g...
