Extensive literature suggests that Ps is a T-cell mediated disease its pathogenesis being highly related to innate and adaptative immune cells. Although natural killer (NK) cells are involved in the inflammatory process of Ps through pro-inf...

Abstract We studied dynamic thiol/disulphide homeostasis, an indicator of oxidative stress, to investigate the effects of newly initiated exercise training on sedentary obese adults. Seventeen sedentary obese adults and 15 normal-weight controls were included in the sample for this study. The obese adults were given a physical exercise training program that lasted twelve weeks. Before and after the exercise training program, blood samples were collected, and serum thiol/disulphide parameters were measured by using a novel technique. Before the start of the exercise training, it was observed that thiol/disulphide h...

Conclusions: In this exploratory study, obesity in general was associated with dysbiotic intestinal microbiota. The relationships of VAT to bacterial diversity and sCD14 suggest that dysbiosis in viscerally obese PLWH could be associated with heightened inflammatory state.

We present a case of a 77-year-old man with advanced hepatocellular carcinoma who was treated with sorafenib. Twenty days post introduction to sorafenib, the patient experienced high fever and painful purpura on the lower limbs. The results of the skin biopsy confirmed the diagnosis. More extensive diagnostics was undertaken, which excluded other possible causes of vasculitis and infectious disease. Following a full recovery, after the steroid treatment was completed, sorafenib has been continued until the progression of the carcinoma. This is the second described case of hepatocellular carcinoma associated with sorafenib ...

This study aimed to assess the association between prevalence of excess weight and obesity and overall and disease-specific mortality rates in Brazilian state capitals and Argentine provinces. This was an ecological study with secondary data, where the principal exposures were prevalence rates for excess weight and obesity, estimated with data from Brazil's Vigitel survey (Risk and Protective Factors Surveillance System for Chronic Non-Communicable Diseases Through Telephone Interveiew) in 2014 and Argentina's National Risk Factor Survey in 2013. Overall and specific mortality rates for the year 2015 were obtained from the...

The objective of our study was to evaluate if the replacement of LCT by MCT in high-fat diets could prevent and/or reduce metabolic disorders. For this purpose, two cohorts of C57BL/6 mice were fed during 10 weeks with three isocaloric high-fat diets with variable MCT content. Cohort A was composed of lean mice while cohort B was composed of obese, insulin resistant mice. In cohort A, replacement of LCT by MCT preserved metabolic health, in part by triggering hepatic thermogenesis. We further found that medium chain fatty acids promote thermogenesis markers within cultured hepatocytes in a FFAR1/GPR40-dependent manner. I...

Discussion Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) is a recurrent, chronic inflammatory disease of the hair follicles particularly in the apocrine gland-bearing areas of the axilla, inguinal, perianal, mammary and inframammary areas. Onset is usually after puberty, in the early 20s. It is more common in females than males. Prevalence is estimated to be 0.05- 4.1%. It can be associated with premature adrenarche, metabolic syndrome and obesity. The lesions are often pruritic, painful, and with malodorous purulent drainage. It often begins with comedomes and tender nodules, and can easily progress to painful abscesses with purulent f...
