Hormones (Athens). 2019 Nov 16;: Authors: Krassas GE, Markou KB Abstract The aim of this review is to provide relevant information regarding the impact of thyroid disease, starting from birth and mainly concerning hyperthyroidism and hypothyroidism, on reproduction. Hyperthyroidism occurs much less commonly in children than hypothyroidism, with Graves' disease (GD) being the most common cause of thyrotoxicosis in children. Children born with neonatal GD have no defects in the reproductive system that could be related to hyperthyroidism. Current treatment options include antithyroid drugs (ATD), surgery, and radioactive iodine (RAI). In males, normal thyroid function seems important, at least in some parameters, for maintenance of semen quality via genomic or non-genomic mechanisms, either by locally acting on Sertoli cells, Leydig cells, or germ cells, or by affecting crosstalk between the HPT axis and the HPG axis. Sexual behavior may also be affected in thyroxic men, although many of these patients may have normal free testosterone levels. In women, menstrual irregularities are the most common reproduction-related symptoms in thyrotoxicosis, while this disorder is also associated with reduced fertility, although most women remain ovulatory. Papillary carcinoma of thyroid (PTC) is the most common neoplasm of the thyroid gland that usually invades lymphatics rather than blood vessels. Hematogenous metastasis of PTC is rare, and distant metastasis to the liver is even rarer. Selective internal radiation therapy with 90Y microspheres is a well-recognized technique in the treatment of liver metastases. Herein, we present a case of PTC with radioactive iodine-negative hepatic metastasis detected by 18F-FDG PET/CT and treated with selective internal radiation therapy.

We report FDG PET/CT images of a 63-year-old woman referred for characterization of osteolytic lesions of the cervical spine. This patient with chronic renal failure had a history of follicular thyroid carcinoma with undifferentiated cells, treated by a total thyroidectomy, completed by radioactive iodine in 2017. Because of cancer history, a FDG PET/CT was performed and showed multiple moderately hypermetabolic osteolytic lesions of the spine from C3 to T1, with joint erosion on CT. A laminectomy was performed for cervical spinal cord decompression and revealed a gouty tophus.

A 24-year-old woman with an unresectable right mesencephalic pilocytic astrocytoma was treated with stereotaxic radiation therapy.
