In this study, four different weight% of Punica granatum fruit peel extract were used as green stabilizers to synthesize IONPs followed by a series of characterization experiments and in vitro anticancer evaluation. Results revealed that all synthesized IONPs have high degree of crystallinity and purity. The optimum saturation magnetization, and hydrodynamic size were found to be ∼69 emu.g−1, and 26.52 nm, respectively. Morphological studies demonstrated that adding peel extract decreased size of NPs with the average particle size below 11 nm. Cytotoxicity assay showed that the IONPs were not react...

Publication date: Available online 14 December 2019Source: Pathology - Research and PracticeAuthor(s): Ha Yoon Mo, Chang Hyeok An, Eun Ji Choi, Nam Jin Yoo, Sug Hyung LeeABSTRACTTen-eleven translocation 3 (TET3) is responsible for the DNA methylation and plays an important role in regulation of the gene expression. TET2, another TET, is frequently mutated in hematologic malignancies and considered a driver gene for leukemogenesis. TET3 mRNA downregulation has been identified in many solid cancers, suggesting its role as a candidate tumor suppressor gene (TSG). However, somatic inactivating mutation and protein expression i...

Osteonecrosis of the jaw has been reported in several patients who have used or are using bisphosphonates by oral or intravenous route. The treatment of (ONJ) includes the administration of local and systemic antibiotics and surgical intervention. Ozone therapy is indicated to treat these injuries, promoting the repair of bone tissue, avoiding invasive procedures, and reducing the use of antibiotics, which is extremely important for elderly and compromised patients. A 74-year-old female patient on chemotherapy treatment with cetuximab for colorectal cancer returned after dental extraction of #38 with incomplete wound heali...

This study shows that CA are released from periventricular and subpial regions to the cerebrospinal fluid and are present in the cervical lymph nodes, into which cerebrospinal fluid drains through the meningeal lymphatic system. We also show that CA can be phagocytosed by macrophages. We conclude that CA can act as containers that remove waste products from the brain and may be involved in a mechanism that cleans the brain. Moreover, we postulate that CA may contribute in some autoimmune brain diseases, exporting brain substances that interact with the immune system, and hypothesize that CA may contain brain markers that m...

This study documents the antioxidative, anticancer and enzyme-inhibiting properties of potential probiotic Bacillus strains isolated from fermented brine mango pickle. Antioxidant activity was determined through in-vitro assays namely, DPPH•, ABTS•+, hydroxyl radical scavenging ability, reducing activity, superoxide anion scavenging ability, linoleic acid and plasma lipid peroxidation ability. Both intact cells (IC) and intracellular cell-free extracts (CFE) from most of the strains exhibited prominent antioxidant activity. Likewise, CFE and intracellular cell-free supernatants (CFS) exhibited potential inhibitor...

Abstract Comparison and detection of stable cancer genes across cancer types is of interest. The gene expression data of 6 different cancer types (colon, breast, lung, ovarian, brain and renal) and a control group from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) database were used in this study. The comparison of gene expression data together with the calculation standard deviations of such data was completed using a statistical model for the detection of stable genes. Genes having similar expression (referred as flexible genes) pattern to the control group in four out of six cancer types are PATE, NEUROD4 and TRAFD1. Moreover...

Authors: Lappalainen J, Holmström D, Lepistö A, Saarnio J, Mecklin JP, Seppälä T Abstract Background: Lifetime incidence of colorectal cancer (CRC) especially in carriers of MLH1 and MSH2 pathogenic germline variants in mismatch repair genes is high despite ongoing colonoscopy surveillance. Lynch syndrome (LS) registries have been criticized for not reporting colonoscopy quality adequately. Methods: Prospective follow-up data from the national registry were combined with a retrospective assessment of the colonoscopy reports from Helsinki University Hospital electronic patients records in 2004-201...
