Authors: Ma Z, Lu D, Zhao W, Wang H Abstract Expression levels of retinol-binding protein (RBP) and albumin (Alb) in the kidney of patients with neonatal hydronephrosis were detected to explore whether RBP and Alb can be used as diagnostic indicators for neonatal hydronephrosis. Blood and urine samples from neonates with hydronephrosis in the obstetrics and gynaecology department of Hongqi Hospital Affiliated to Mudanjiang Medical University from January 2016 to January 2018, and healthy newborns were collected. RBP and Alb levels in neonates, and the expression of IL-12 in serum of the mothers were detected by ELI...

The remaining 114 patients were randomly divided into two gro...

ABSTRACTObjectiveTo propose a clinical score for the optimal antenatal diagnosis of fetal lower urinary tract obstruction (LUTO) in the second and third trimesters of pregnancy, as an alternative to the commonly used ultrasound triad of megacystis, keyhole sign and hydronephrosis.MethodsThis was a national retrospective study carried out at the eight tertiary fetal medicine units (FMUs) in The Netherlands. Only cases referred for megacystis from the second trimester onwards and with a clear postnatal diagnosis were included in the study. At referral, data were collected on amniotic fluid volume, renal cortical appearance, ...

Abstract IntroductionTo evaluate the accuracy of transvaginal sonography for preoperative detection of bladder endometriosis and surgical outcomes regarding fertility and pain symptoms of women with urinary tract endometriosis. Material and methodsRetrospective cohort study of consecutive patients with urinary tract endometriosis undergoing laparoscopic partial cystectomy and/or ureterolysis/decompression, ureteric resection and end‐to‐end anastomosis or ureteroneocystostomy for ureteral stenosis and hydronephrosis. ResultsOf 207 patients with deep infiltrating endometriosis, 50 exhibited urinary tract endometriosis, c...

ConclusionsWe propose a clinical score that combines five antenatal variables for the prospective diagnosis of congenital LUTO. This score showed good discriminative capacity in predicting LUTO, and better diagnostic accuracy compared to the classic US triad. Future studies to validate these results are needed in order to refine the antenatal management of LUTO and prevent inappropriate fetal interventions.

CONCLUSION: PCNL should not be considered as the first therapeutic method in the first trimester of pregnancy, unless in urgent situations such as symptomatic renal pelvic stone with moderate to severe hydronephrosis in patients who do not tolerate or are complicated by nephrostomy or internal stent. However, this procedure could be technically demanding and should be done in centers with enough experience and equipment in percutaneousnephrolithotomy. PMID: 29101756 [PubMed - in process]
