ConclusionsThyroidectomy may only be required during total laryngectomy for selected cases of advanced transglottic tumors and tumors with subglottic extension more than 10 mm.ResumoIntroduçãoEm geral, a invasão da glândula tireoide não é uma característica do carcinoma laríngeo avançado, não sendo necessário realizar tireoidectomia em todos os casos de laringectomia total.ObjetivosAvaliar a frequência da invasão da glândula tireoide em pacientes com carcinoma espinocelular avançado de laringe submetidos à laringe...

Authors: Yang Q, Sun J, Ma Y, Zhao C, Song J Abstract Accumulating evidence showed that lncRNAs play important roles in tumour development. Recently, a novel lncRNA DLX6-AS1 was found to be overexpressed in some tumors such as lung adenocarcinoma, renal cell carcinoma and hepatocellular carcinoma. However, the functional roles of DLX6-AS1 in laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma (LSCC) are still unclear. In the study, we showed that the expression level of DLX6-AS1 was upregulated in the LSCC samples compared to the noncancerous tissues. By using CCK-8 analysis, we demonstrated that knockdown expression of DLX6-AS1 sup...

Programmed death-1 (PD-1) inhibitors were administered as first-line chemotherapy; however, treatment respons...

(American Society for Radiation Oncology) A new clinical guideline from the American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO) provides recommendations on the use of radiation therapy to treat patients diagnosed with the most common types of skin cancers. The guideline details when radiation treatments are appropriate as stand-alone therapy or following surgery for basal and cutaneous squamous cell carcinomas (BCC, cSCC), and it suggests dosing and fractionation for these treatments. ASTRO's first guideline for skin cancer published in Practical Radiation Oncology.

Conclusion.Compared with SCCHN, SmCCHN carries a worse survival and is more likely to present with more advanced stage.Implications for Practice.Small cell carcinoma of the head and neck (SmCCHN) is a rare subtype of head and neck cancer. In this Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) data analysis, the characteristics and survival of SmCCHN are compared with those of the common squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck. Results show that SmCCHN carries a worse prognosis and tends to present at a more advanced stage; SmCCHN also is ten times more likely to originate from the salivary glands. These findings m...

Oral cancer is the sixth most common cancer type in the world, and 90% of it is represented by oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC). Despite progress in preventive and therapeutic strategies, delay in OSCC diagnosis remains one of the major causes of high morbidity and mortality; indeed the majority of OSCC has been lately identified in the advanced clinical stage (i.e., III or IV). Moreover, after primary treatment, recurrences and/or metastases are found in more than half of the patients (80% of cases within the first 2 years) and the 5-year survival rate is still lower than 50%, resulting in a serious issue for public he...
