Publication date: Available online 6 December 2019Source: Journal de Mycologie MédicaleAuthor(s): Peiying Chen, Juan Liu, Meihua Zeng, Hong SangAbstractAspergillus infections are increasingly recognized as a global health problem because of limited antifungal drugs and occurrence of azole resistance worldwide. More cyp51-mediated and non-cyp51-mediated mechanisms of azole resistance have been identified in clinical and laboratory studies in recent years with applications of molecular biotechnology including next-generation sequencing, reverse genetics and so on. In this review, current research on the molecular mech...

Abstract SUMMARYAspergilli produce conidia for reproduction or to survive hostile conditions, and they are highly effective in the distribution of conidia through the environment. In immunocompromised individuals, inhaled conidia can germinate inside the respiratory tract, which may result in invasive pulmonary aspergillosis. The management of invasive aspergillosis has become more complex, with new risk groups being identified and the emergence of antifungal resistance. Patient survival is threatened by these developments, stressing the need for alternative therapeutic strategies. As germination is crucial for in...

In the study presented here, we examined the sirtuins in the white koji fungus, Aspergillus luchuensis mut. kawachii (Aspergillus kawachii), to examine their role in the regulation of amylolytic enzymes and citric acid production during solid-state culture (koji). Characte...

Publication date: February 2020Source: Phytochemistry, Volume 170Author(s): Changhong Huo, Xinhua Lu, Zhihui Zheng, Yeying Li, Yan Xu, Haizhou Zheng, Yuanchen NiuAbstractSix undescribed azaphilones, deflectins C1-C3, deflectins D1-D2, and deflectin E, along with five known azaphilones were obtained from a solid culture of the wild fungus Aspergillus deflectus NCC0415. Their structures were determined by HRESIMS, NMR and ECD analyses, together with the GIAO 13C NMR calculation method. All compounds displayed strong or moderate inhibitory activity against protein tyrosine phosphatases SHP2 and PTP1B. Structure-activity relat...

In this study, a novel glucose oxidase gene, CngoxA, from Cladosporium neopsychrotolerans SL16, was cloned and expressed in Pichia pastoris. Recombinant CnGOXA exhibited maximal activity at 20 ℃ and pH 7.0, and was stable at 30 ℃ and pH 6.0–9.0 for 1 h, with a half-life of 15 min at 40 ℃. Compared with CnGOXA, the half-life of its mutant CnGOXA-M1 (Y169C-A211C), at 40 °C increased approximately 48-fold, and was stable at 30 ℃ and pH 3.0–12.0 for 1 h. The kcat and catalytic efficiency of CnGOXA-M1 were enhanced 0.7- and 1.6-fold, respectively. Both enzymes were cold-adapted and highly resistant to SD...

Publication date: Available online 4 December 2019Source: Food ChemistryAuthor(s): Jian Ju, Yunfei Xie, Hang Yu, Yahui Guo, Yuliang Cheng, Rongrong Zhang, Weirong YaoAbstractConsumers’ preferences for cleaner label products require the food industry to replace synthetic preservatives with natural substitutes. Therefore, the synergistic inhibitory effect of eugenol and citral (SEC) on Aspergillus niger was explored. On this basis, the antimicrobial sachet containing SEC was developed and its application potential in bread preservation was evaluated. The content of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and malondialdehyde (MDA...
