Suitability of enhanced head injury criteria for vehicle rating.

Conclusions: While preliminary, the results of this study demonstrate that more evaluation of the most suitable brain injury criteria is necessary before consideration into a consumer evaluation program. Convergence of the head injury criteria risks for individual cases should be part of the validation process for enhanced head injury criteria, since identical head signals should yield similar injury risks. We report the effects of acute M2-like macrophage enrichment in a mouse closed head injury model of diffuse traumatic brain injury. Enrichment is achieved by engineering mesenchymal stromal cells with synthetic interleukin-4 (IL-4) mRNA to transiently express IL-4. Through a transcriptomic analysis of treated brain tissue, we begin to understand the effects of acute IL-4 and M2-like macrophage enrichment.

Authors: Huang J, Gao C, Dong J, Zhang J, Jiang R Abstract Introduction: Chronic subdural hematoma (CSDH) is a common neurosurgical disease, whose incidence has been steadily increasing with our aging population. While not common, CSDH can also occur in children. CSDH is often associated with traumatic head injury, but its underlying mechanism remains poorly understood. The first line treatment for CSDH is surgery. However, surgery is contraindicated in some patients and has a high rate of recurrence. Effective non-surgical treatment is therefore highly desirable.Areas covered: This review discusses the pathogenesi...

Abstract One of the consistent pathologies associated with both clinical and experimental traumatic brain injury is axonal injury, especially following mild traumatic brain injury (or concussive injury). Several lines of experimental evidence have demonstrated a role for NAD+ metabolism in axonal degeneration. One of the enzymes that metabolizes NAD+ in axons is Sarm1 (Sterile Alpha and TIR Motif Containing 1), and its activity is thought to play a key role in axonal degeneration. Using a Sarm1 knock-out mouse, we examined if loss of Sarm1 offers axonal injury protection and improves cognitive outcome after repeat...

CONCLUSIONS: Opioid dependence is associated with impairments in decision making, executive function, working memory, and attention. Co-morbid cannabis dependence had similar profiles of cognitive impairments. SCIENTIFIC SIGNIFICANCE: Co-morbid cannabis dependence might not add on to the existing cognitive dysfunction in opioid dependence. Further studies should be done with a larger sample. Conclusion: In conclusion, observed differences between the occupant models' head injury metric output were quantified. Loading direction had a large effect on metric outcome and metric comparability across models, with frontal and rear impacts with low vertical acceleration tending to be the most similar. One explanation for these differences could be the differences in neck stiffness between the models that allowed more rotation in the GHBMC and THOR. Care should be taken when using ATDs as human volunteer surrogates in these low energy events. PMID: 31951749 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]
