Association of long non-coding RNA MIAT and MALAT1 expression profiles in peripheral blood of coronary artery disease patients with previous cardiac events

Abstract Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) are implicated in various cellular and pathological processes. Two lncRNAs, myocardial infarction-associated transcript (MIAT) and metastasis-associated lung adenocarcinoma transcript 1 (MALAT1), may be involved in the pathogenesis of coronary artery disease (CAD). Here, we aimed to determine the relative circulating levels of MIAT and MALAT1 in 110 stable CAD patients and 117 controls and to correlate their levels with the clinical and laboratory data. Peripheral blood expression levels were quantified by Real-Time qPCR. The median MIAT expression level in CAD patients was significantly 12-fold higher than controls (p

Authors: Morita K, Wang D, Baba R, Morimoto H, Song Y, Kanazawa T, Yoshida Y Abstract Although it is known that desert dust exacerbates allergic diseases, how it affects the onset of autoimmune diseases is unclear. No epidemiological investigations or animal experiments have been conducted so far to elucidate the effects of desert dust on autoimmune diseases. Here, we focused on particulate matter, such Asian sand dust (ASD) that has been known to cause adverse health effects in East Asian countries, and conducted animal experiments to examine how ASD influences type 1 diabetes (T1D), an autoimmune disease. An ASD ...

Conclusion The elucidation of the function of circRNAs is an emerging field of science with a tremendous potential after previously being dismissed as RNA artifacts. They are ubiquitously expressed and thousands of members have already been identified. This fact only expands their potential to possibly enhance our knowledge to understand the difference between health and disease. Owing to their structure stability and their presence in exosomes circRNAs may also exert their function in an autocrine, paracrine and possible endocrine fashion. In addition, the fact that circRNAs are widely distributed in the cellular compart...

In conclusion, the present study identified canagliflozin as a potent inhibitor of human EC proliferation. The anti-proliferative action of canagliflozin is observed in ECs isolated from both the venous and arterial circulation, and is partly due to the blockade of cyclin A expression. In addition, this study found that canagliflozin inhibits tube formation in cultured ECs and mouse aortic rings. Notably, these actions are specific for canagliflozin and not seen with other SGLT2 inhibitors. The ability of canagliflozin to exert these pleiotropic effects on EC function may contribute to both the adverse and salutary actions...

CONCLUSIONWe report a rare case of GCSMT with lymph node metastasis. Preoperative diagnosis of GCSMT is necessary to guide surgical management. EUS-FNA and boring biopsy could aid in obtaining adequate quantities of the specimens for histopathological and immunohistochemical diagnosis.

In conclusion, CAVD is highly prevalent. Long understood as a passive process, it is now known to be complex and one which involves pathophysiological mechanisms similar to those of atherosclerosis. Understanding these mechanisms could help to establish new therapeutic targets that might allow us to halt or at least slow down the progression of the disease. Recent studies suggest that the majority of the human genome is transcribed, but only about 2% accounts for protein-coding exons. Long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) constitute a heterogenic class of RNAs that includes, for example, intergenic lncRNAs, antisense transcripts, and enhancer RNAs. Moreover, alternative splicing can lead to the formation of circular RNAs. In support of putative functions, GWAS for cardiovascular diseases have shown predictive single-nucleotide polymorphisms in lncRNAs, such as the 9p21 susceptibility locus that encodes the lncRNA antisense noncoding RNA in the INK4 locus (ANRIL). Many lncRNAs ar...
