Authors: Lin ZM, Wen Q, Yan CX, Pan MQ, Mo GQ, Chen JF, Huang PT Abstract The aim of the present study was to investigate the benefits of combining contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) and strain elastography (SE) for the diagnosis of thyroid nodules with non-diagnostic fine-needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) results. Between October 2013 and March 2017, CEUS and SE were performed in 226 patients (236 thyroid nodules) with non-diagnostic FNAC results prior to thyroidectomy. The diagnostic value of CEUS, SE and their combination (CEUS+SE) in distinguishing malignant from benign thyroid nodules was evaluated, using sur...

ConclusionFollowing ultrasound-guided thoracentesis, the incidence of pneumothorax requiring chest tube decompression is only 1 in 170. Of the 1 in 30 patients who develop a pneumothorax, only 1 in 6 require a chest tube. This information can inform procedural consent discussions as well as future guidelines about the necessity of routine postprocedural chest radiography.

Conclusions: All the three techniques are feasible for intraoperative HCC thermal ablation. Compared with CEUS, FI techniques are more suitable in patients with ALBI grade 2 and 3, multiple tumors, and in tumors at risky locations. PMID: 31813295 [PubMed - in process]

CONCLUSIONS: Although intra-operative assessment reduced the need for CTx in 21%, up to 30% of patients would still require a second operation. Altering the pre-operative criteria does not influence this outcome. Patients deemed eligible for lobectomy should be informed that despite careful pre- and intra-operative assessment, there is up to a 30% risk of requiring CTx. However, their relationship with the coronary circulation, particularly in coronary microvascular dysfunction (CMD), is unclear. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to compare these non-invasive measurements to coronary microvascular function following endothelial independent, endothelial-de...
