Authors: Yu SB, Kang HM, Park DB, Park BS, Kim IR Abstract Cudraxanthone D (CD), derived from the root bark of Cudrania tricuspidata, is a natural xanthone compound. However, the biological activity of CD in terms of human metabolism has been barely reported to date. Autophagy is known as a self-degradation process related to cancer cell viability and metastasis. Herein, we investigated the effects of CD on human oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) metastatic related cell phenotype. We confirmed that CD effectively decreased proliferation and viability in a time- and dose-dependent manner in human OSCC cells. In ad...

Authors: Pu L, Chen WH, Cao LX, Wu KJ, Chen SL, Lin JH, Li CL, Wang SQ, Zhu MM, Zhang YM Abstract Objectives: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of compound Kushen injection (CKI) combined with chemo treatment (chemo) for non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Methods: We systematically searched the literature published in seven databases, including Embase, PubMed, central, MEDLINE, CNKI, Wanfang, and VIP, from their inception to April 2019 for all randomized controlled trials (RCTs) comparing CKI plus chemo with chemo alone in patients with NSCLC. Our main end point was clinical efficiency and the secondary outc...

CONCLUSIONS: Although PBMT demonstrated a slight improvement in reducing arm circumference and arm volume, the results of our meta-analysis did not show significant benefits in relieving of lymphoedema. Further trials are needed to recruit more participants, and to evaluate the long-term efficacy and safety of PBMT in management of breast cancer-related lymphoedema. CONCLUSION: Results of the present meta-analysis indicated that L-arginine supplementation increased the circulating concentrations of CRP in subjects with ages>60 years old, subjects with higher levels of CRP, patients with cancer and when used in enteral formula. Therefore, L-arginine should be used with caution in these subjects. However, further well designed, large-scale studies are needed. PMID: 31780028 [PubMed - in process]

CONCLUSION: Even though a wide range of different forms of CAM are currently used by oncology patients in the northern and southern regions of Turkey, further cooperation with health professionals is needed to obtain better information about both CAM usage and medical treatment. Better informing patients about how best to use CAM in conjunction with medical treatment is also crucial. PMID: 31780026 [PubMed - in process]
