ConclusionsLocal anesthesia in otosclerosis surgery did not increase stress or postoperative symptoms compared to general anesthesia. Audiometric results were not affected by type of anesthesia.

ConclusionCochlear implantation under local anesthesia is a safe and fast procedure for elderly patients. The intraoperative sound experience can give an extra motivation in the postoperative rehabilitation. Our results prove that by carefully selected elderly patients cochlear implantation can assure a significant increase in speech perception. We can establish that the new posterior suprameatal approach technique combined with local anesthesia presents a viable future option for those patients who were inoperable beforehand because of high risks of general anesthesia.

We present a case of a mid-sized vestibular schwannoma (T3b according to the Hannover classification) that was resected through a retrosigmoid transmeatal approach in semi-sitting position under endoscopic assistance. CONCLUSION: We demonstrate a proof-of-concept comparison of DPOAEs and teeth acceleration levels elicited by a bone vibrator placed either against the skin-covered temporal bone, as in audiometry, or directly against the dura mater in patients undergoing a craniotomy.
