Ascension's health-data partnership with Google sparks federal inquiry

News of St. Louis-based Ascension Health's partnership with Google, in which it is sharing health data for millions of patients, has sparked a federal inquiry. The Office for Civil Rights in the Department of Health and Human Services "will seek to learn more information about this mass collection of individuals' medical records to ensure that HIPAA protections were fully implemented," the office's director, Roger Severino, told the Wall Street Journal T uesday.
