A randomized study to evaluate post-dural puncture headache after cesarean section: Comparison with median and paramedian approaches

Conclusions: Spinal anesthesia with a median or paramedian approach at cesarean section has no effect on the incidence of PDPH, but we believe that there has been a need for further studies with larger or different patient populations.

Conclusions: ACT practitioners were treating a wide range of maternity conditions. Referrals from Western medical practitioners were more common for maternity acupuncture than for fertility or menstrual health. It may be that this professional network approach would be beneficial in other countries to support practitioners interested in providing maternity acupuncture. PMID: 31624526 [PubMed]

Conclusion: Although some argue that abortion is detrimental to women's health, these study data indicate that physical health is no worse in women who sought and underwent abortion than in women who were denied abortion. Indeed, differences emerged suggesting worse health among those who gave birth. Primary Funding Source: An anonymous foundation. PMID: 31181576 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Conclusions: Pre-injury psychiatric and pre-injury headache/migraine symptoms are risk factors for worse functional and post-concussive outcomes at 3- and 6-months post-mTBI. mTBI patients presenting to acute care should be evaluated for psychiatric and headache/migraine history, with lower thresholds for providing TBI education/resources, surveillance, and follow-up/referrals. Clinical Trial Registration: www.ClinicalTrials.gov, identifier NCT01565551. Introduction Traumatic brain injury (TBI) remains a significant cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide. In 2013 ~2.8 million TBI cases were recorded annually i...

“Can tubal reversal surgery be done with an epidural?” Epidural needle being inserted at start of surgery Women ask this question because they are fearful of being ‘put to sleep’ with general anesthesia. Many women are familiar with epidurals because of child birth, c-sections, and tubal ligation. Epidural anesthesia can cause more complications than general anesthesia. Epidural anesthesia may not the best choice for outpatient surgery. Although tubal reversal can be done with epidural anesthesia, our experience has demonstrated tubal reversal under general anesthesia is safer and has less side effe...

Conclusion The results obtained from this research shows, in general, the fragility in the social and political infrastructure necessary to improve the living conditions of populations, particularly those that depend on family agriculture in drought prone areas. The conditions of social, economic and environmental vulnerabilities presented in the region can be amplified by the drought process, and can aggravate the impacts resulting drought events, thus disadvantaging the population of this region, as shown in the Fig. 1. The general perception of the interviewees of the health sector shows an agreement with what is found...

Alcohol is embedded in our society, and it is difficult to be in a public space without seeing a reference to alcohol or being offered a drink. Alcohol is broken down in the liver by an enzyme called alcohol dehydrogenase. People with a variant in this enzyme have issues with metabolizing alcohol and can develop total body flushing or reddening of the skin. Alcohol consumption has been associated with pregnancy defects, liver disease, pancreatitis, high blood pressure, coronary artery disease, stroke, cancer, addiction issues, and physical injury (trauma to self/others with acute intoxication). The health benefits of alcoh...

Authors: Bonifay T, Vesin G, Bidaud B, Bonnefoy C, Dueymes M, Nacher M, Djossou F, Epelboin L Abstract BACKGROUND: Chikungunya (CHIKV) and dengue viruses (DENV) are two arboviruses with epidemic potential and similar clinical presentations. The potential life-threatening risk associated with DENV justifies an immediate biological assessment and medical follow-up which may be delayed for CHIKV. OBJECTIVES: To compare the clinical variables that would help differentiate patients infected with CHIKV or DENV, and then to compute a predictive score. PATIENTS AND METHOD: Retrospective case-control study comparing...
