Authors: Hou J, Li L, Zhu H, Chen H, Wei N, Dai M, Ni Q, Guo X Abstract The aim of the present study was to examine the association between the migration of breast cancer cells in vitro and radiosensitivity by establishing a breast cancer cell model with different migratory capacities. Transwell chambers in a 24-well plate were used to separate MDA-MB-231 and ZR-7530 cells and to establish cell models with different migratory capacities. Subsequently, the radiosensitivity of the cell models was measured using a radiation clone formation assay. Furthermore, differential gene expression was determined using gene micr...

Authors: Zhang C, Xiong X, Li Y, Huang K, Liu L, Peng X, Weng W Abstract Neuroblastoma (NB) is one of the most common extracranial, solid, pediatric malignancies. Despite improvements in conventional therapies, including surgery, chemotherapy and radiation therapy, the prognosis of stage IV NB remains poor, indicating that novel treatment strategies are required. Immunotherapies, such as anti-GD2 monoclonal antibodies, used alone or in combination with cytokines, and peripheral blood mononuclear cells or cord blood mononuclear cells (CBMNCs), have been indicated to cause NB cell death and to prolong patient surviva...

Authors: Sun HB, Wang HY, Wu B, Wang ZF, Wang LZ, Li FQ, Wu JD, Zhang LN Abstract The poor prognosis of patients with osteosarcoma remains a persistent problem, in particular for patients with unresectable tumors or metastasis. Therefore, combination of radiotherapy and chemotherapy has been considered for patients with metastasis or recurrence, patients unsuitable for surgery and patients refusing surgery. The present study aimed to investigate the effect of the combined treatment with cisplatin and radiation therapy on the biological characteristics of the osteosarcoma cell line MG-63 and the breast cancer 1 (BRC...

Papillary carcinoma of thyroid (PTC) is the most common neoplasm of the thyroid gland that usually invades lymphatics rather than blood vessels. Hematogenous metastasis of PTC is rare, and distant metastasis to the liver is even rarer. Selective internal radiation therapy with 90Y microspheres is a well-recognized technique in the treatment of liver metastases. Herein, we present a case of PTC with radioactive iodine-negative hepatic metastasis detected by 18F-FDG PET/CT and treated with selective internal radiation therapy.

We present 3 cases with false-negatives for local (recurrent) prostate cancer on 68Ga-PSMA PET/CT, using multiparametric MRI and histopathology as reference standard. Metal artifact of prostate gold markers placed for external beam radiation therapy, low level of PSMA uptake, and bladder spillover are potential causes of misinterpretation. Awareness of these diagnostic pitfalls may improve 68Ga-PSMA PET/CT interpretation.

A 24-year-old woman with an unresectable right mesencephalic pilocytic astrocytoma was treated with stereotaxic radiation therapy. Three months after a radiation therapy–induced bleeding, she presented a severe disabling low frequency rest and kinetic tremor involving the left upper limb, associated with dystonia, and a Holmes tremor was suspected. Thereby, we performed a 123I-FP-CIT SPECT (DATSCAN) that revealed a normal distribution of radiotracer over the left striatum, whereas no binding was seen in the right caudate and putamen. This pattern was consistent with a right severe nigrostriatal dopaminergic denervati...

CONCLUSIONS: This new method allows operators to correct their own therapy plans and choices, customizing the treatment plan on the actual condition of the patient. Moreover, it makes all the rehabilitation process safer and can reduce the risk of failure, side effects and inconveniences for the patients. PMID: 31799661 [PubMed - in process]
