Accuracy of Intra-Oral Scans Compared to Conventional Impression in Vitro.

CONCLUSIONS:At the preparation margin, Trios 3 performed significantly better than conventional impression and the other intra oral scanners. LAVA TDS, CEREC Omnicam and CS3600 showed similar accuracy at the margin, yet better than conventional impression and GC Aadva.

We report the case of a male patient with cutaneous metastasis of prostate adenocarcinoma located in the cervical and upper thoracic area. The patient also had a history of pulmonary tuberculosis. A CT scan revealed the presence of bone metastasis, pleural effusion, and infiltration of the soft tissues of the neck. The histopathological study confirmed the presence of cutaneous metastasis of primary prostate neoplasia. We present this case due to its unusualness and its importance in the differential diagnosis of this pathology. PMID: 31800950 [PubMed - in process]

Purpose: To investigate the density of conjunctival blood vessels in normal eyes and in eyes with pinguecula or pterygium. Methods: In this cross-sectional study, the conjunctival blood vessel density of 15 normal eyes, 15 pinguecula eyes, and 15 pterygium eyes of 43 healthy adults was assessed using optical coherence tomography angiography with an anterior segment lens adapter. The nasal surface of each eye (3 × 3 mm) was scanned 3 times to a depth of 800 μm. Conjunctival vessel density was defined as the percent of the scanned volume occupied by vessels in which blood flow was measured. Results: The high...

Bahjat, Ahamd Mohammad Sharif Tahir, Ayad Ahmad MohammedAbstractHydatid cyst of the heart is very rare, the left ventricle is the commonest site of myocardial involvement due to dominant left coronary vessels and thicker wall. Isolated cardiac involvement is extremely rare. Patients may be quite asymptomatic but the cyst may cause palpitation, dyspnea, chest pain, or when ruptured in to the cardiac or pericardial cavities may cause emergency presentations like anaphylactic reactions, sudden collapse due to pericardial...

WestAbstractHabitual action video game experience is associated with both increased grey matter and activity in the striatum and decreased grey matter in the hippocampus. To further investigate this relationship, we tested differences in resting state functional connectivity (rsFC) between action video games players (actionVGPs) compared to non-video game players (NVGPs) using the hippocampus, the caudate nucleus and the nucl...

Authors: Udupi S, Puri K Abstract Background: Mis-transfusion of blood components triggering serious complications are mostly due to preventable clerical errors, especially pre-transfusion misidentification of patient/blood unit at bedside. Recommendations for standard identity check is by electronic devices like barcode scanners. Establishments unable to afford these gadgets (e.g. economically poorer countries) perform identity check subjectively through visual judgement. This is prone to errors precipitating tremendous anxiety in personnel transfusing blood unit. Hence a novel objective method for pre-transfusion...

Abstract Cervical cancer is still an important cause of mortality among women in a number of countries. There are effective methods of prevention and early diagnosis, but they require well-trained medical professionals including cytologists. Within this project, we built a prototype of a new device together with implemented software using U-NET and CNN architectures of neural networks (ANN), to convert the currently used optical microscopes into fully independent scanning and evaluating systems for cytological samples. To evaluate the specificity and sensitivity of the system, 2058 (2000 normal and 58 abnormal sam...

Authors: Loudos G, Georgiou M, Rouchota M, Papadimitroulas P, Fysikopoulos E Abstract BACKGROUND: For every new drug,>10,000 candidate molecules are tested for ~15 years. This is the daily mission of thousands research teams worldwide. It is well proven that small animal imaging speeds up this work, increases accuracy and decreases costs. However, commercial imaging systems have high purchase cost, require high service contracts, special facilities and trained staff. Thus, they are affordable to only few large research centres and not to the majority of small and medium research teams internationally. There are ...
