Optimum Surgical Treatment for Tricuspid Valve Infective Endocarditis: An Analysis of the STS National Database

The incidence of intravenous drug associated (IVDA) Tricuspid Valve (TV) endocarditis in the United States is rapidly increasing. Our goal was to evaluate the outcomes of isolated TV operations using the Society of Thoracic Surgeon (STS) Adult Cardiac Surgical Database.

ConclusionFew case reports have described histological findings of proteinase 3-antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibody-positive renal injury complicated with infective endocarditis. We believe that an accumulation of histological findings and treatments is mandatory for establishment of optimal management for proteinase 3-antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibody-positive renal injury complicated with infective endocarditis.

Catabolic control protein (CcpA) is linked to complex carbohydrate utilization and virulence factor in many bacteria species, influences the transcription of target genes by many mechanisms. To characterize the activity and regulatory mechanisms of CcpA in Streptococcus sanguinis, here, we analyzed the transcriptome of Streptococcus sanguinis SK36 and its CcpA-null derivative (ΔCcpA) using RNA-seq. Compared to the regulon of CcpA in SK36 in the RegPrecise database, we found that only minority of differentially expressed genes (DEGs) contained putative catabolite response element (cre) in their regulatory regions, ind...

ConclusionKnowledge levels of guidelines for antibiotic prophylaxis varied greatly depending on the study design, respondent characteristics, and time period factors. There is a lack of research published on compliance rates for dentists and dental students with respect to guidelines for the prevention of infective endocarditis.

Conclusions18F-FDG PET proved to be a sensitive technique with a high diagnostic value in patients with prosthetic valves and intracardiac devices and suspected IE. Its utility decreased dramatically in patients with suspected IE on native valves, in which TEE presented higher sensitivity and thus better diagnostic value.

Authors: Melenotte C, Million M, Raoult D Abstract Introduction: Coxiella burnetii infection is still challenging physicians, mainly because no international coordination has been stated to standardize the therapeutic strategy and improve the clinical outcomes.Areas covered: Based on the recent knowledge on Q fever, we review here the clinical practices from Q fever diagnosis to therapy. We searched Pubmed and Google Scholar to perform the qualitative synthesis.Expert opinion: Four major critical points are highlighted in this review. The first point is that Q fever diagnosis has been reviewed in the light of the n...

Injection drug use-related infective endocarditis hospitalizations have markedly increased over the past decade. Right-sided infective endocarditis is strongly associated with intravenous drug use, and 90% of right-sided endocarditis involves the tricuspid valve. There has been an increase in the need for surgical therapy for tricuspid valve endocarditis. In this issue of Operative Techniques, Brescia and associates discuss the indications for tricuspid valve surgery for endocarditis and provide detailed description of techniques for tricuspid valve leaflet repair and augmentation.
