Acute renal failure due to IgA nephropathy in sarcoidosis.

We presented a 56-year-old woman with renal impairment who was diagnosed with sarcoidosis accompanied by IgA nephropathy. Treatment with methylprednisolone was started for the patient. After treatment, the patient was discharged with good general condition and resolved proteinuria. PMID: 31705752 [PubMed - in process]

Authors: Li S, Ou Y, Li C, Wei W, Lei L, Zhang Q Abstract Acute spinal cord injury (SCI) has a high rate of disability and mortality. Although secondary SCI results in local tissue hypoxia and the release of inflammatory mediators, it is both controllable and reversible. Therefore, timely rehabilitation treatment is beneficial for the partial recovery of patients with SCI. The present study aimed to investigate the use of methylprednisolone combined with high-frequency electrotherapy as a method of rehabilitation treatment in rats with SCI. The rat SCI model was prepared using the modified Allen's method with the a...

Authors: Chen FF, Tang HY, Yu F, Que CL, Zhou FD, Wang SX, Wang GF, Zhao MH Abstract A 43-year-old Chinese man with a silicosis history was admitted to our hospital due to bilateral lower extremity edema for 1 year, exacerbating with hematuria for 2 months. He started working as a coal miner 30 years ago, and was diagnosed as silicosis 3 months ago. Lab tests revealed hematuria 3+, proteinuria 3+, and a serum creatinine value 2.47 mg/dl on routine check. He was diagnosed with focal proliferative IgA nephropathy (IgAN) and acute tubulo-interstitial nephritis by renal biopsy. He was...

Conclusion: In conclusion, the available best evidence support an association between frailty and AKI among elder patients, thus relevant interventions should be taken among elderly under potential risk of AKI. PMID: 31809623 [PubMed - in process]

Bilateral lung parenchymal involvement is seen in infective as well as noninfective conditions, appearing as focal or diffuse lung disease. PET/CT with FDG helps in characterization (increased glucose utilization is seen by both inflammatory and neoplastic cells). In this article, we describe the spectrum of patterns of FDG uptake and associated CT changes involving bilateral lung parenchyma. Benign conditions described are aspiration pneumonia; pulmonary toxicity by bleomycin; infections, namely, sarcoidosis, miliary pulmonary tuberculosis, and pulmonary nocardiosis; and inflammatory conditions such as pulmonary Langerhan...

We report FDG PET/CT images of a 63-year-old woman referred for characterization of osteolytic lesions of the cervical spine. This patient with chronic renal failure had a history of follicular thyroid carcinoma with undifferentiated cells, treated by a total thyroidectomy, completed by radioactive iodine in 2017. Because of cancer history, a FDG PET/CT was performed and showed multiple moderately hypermetabolic osteolytic lesions of the spine from C3 to T1, with joint erosion on CT. A laminectomy was performed for cervical spinal cord decompression and revealed a gouty tophus.

dal R Abstract BACKGROUND: Uveitis and acute renal failure can be seen in various immune-mediated systemic diseases. Here we present a case of a young man with a rare inflammatory oculorenal syndrome. CASE REPORT: A man in his thirties was admitted with a constellation of fatigue, flank pain, weight loss and bilateral acute anterior uveitis. Laboratory tests showed anaemia, leukocytosis with eosinophilia, as well as elevated creatinine and C-reactive protein, and urine analyses demonstrated mild proteinuria. Work-up excluded sarcoidosis, Sjögren's syndrome, systemic lupus erythematosus, ANCA-associated v...
