Analysis of chicken breast meat freshness with an electrochemical approach

Publication date: Available online 9 November 2019Source: Journal of Electroanalytical ChemistryAuthor(s): Li Fu, Aiwu Wang, Huaiwei Zhang, Qingwei Zhou, Fei Chen, Weitao Su, Aimin Yu, Zhenguo Ji, Qinghua LiuAbstractAn electrochemical methodology for the determination of chicken breast meat freshness using a portable screen-printed electrode is described. Graphene sheets were introduced during meat sample preparation to enhance the electrochemical signal. The electrochemical activity profile of the meat extract shows a consistent fingerprint change during the meat decomposition process and can be used for evaluating meat freshness. We also converted the electrochemical profiles into a series of patterns for recognizable evaluation. The results suggest that the proposed electrochemical sensor could evaluate the freshness of chicken breast meat across brands. The proposed new analytical approach meets the goals of fast detection and simple operation and is capable of on-site testing.

Publication date: Available online 7 December 2019Source: Case Reports in Women's HealthAuthor(s): Gordon Narayansingh, Jennifer HohAbstractAbdominal pain following in vitro fertilization (IVF) in the presence of enlarged ovaries commonly leads to the diagnosis of ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS). Progressively worsening pain with a rise in inflammatory markers with normal hematological indices implies a diagnosis of ovarian torsion of the hyperstimulated ovary. Early recourse to laparoscopic assessment and derotation of the affected ovary even after 72 h following the onset of symptoms can allow a return to viab...

ABSTRACT: Intimate partner violence (IPV) occurs across all cultures, ethnicities, socioeconomic classes, and educational backgrounds. Nurses should be aware of IPV and causative factors that include personal attributes, stressors, and community issues. The Intimate Partner Exposome conceptual model is used to identify exogenous and endogenous IPV risk factors. In addition, distinctive environmental factors can increase risk for IPV. The purpose of this article is to increase recognition of causative factors and presenting signs to enhance the nurse's ability to identify and assist IPV victims.

ABSTRACT: High mortality rates continue among African Americans related to complications of uncontrolled hypertension. The purpose of this study was to determine if a faith-based self-management education program would improve self-care activities related to the management of hypertension among African American adults. Ten African American adults who reported a diagnosis of hypertension for 6 months or longer completed an 8-week education program focused on strategies for hypertension management. The education program was enhanced with the utilization of spiritual components of prayer, Scripture reading, and journaling.

ABSTRACT: There has been an increase in student enrollment in advanced practice nurse programs, but limited information regarding attrition and dropout rates in nurse practitioner (NP) programs. Management of NP students includes student evaluations, preceptor guidance and support, student support, and use of reflective practice. Program directors, faculty members, and preceptors must assist NP students with role transitioning and help those who are not meeting the rigors of NP education to leave the program and discover alternative nursing roles.
