Accountability: Why We All Need to Have It

NOTE from Phil: This is a special guest post from someone I greatly admire and respect, and I am thrilled that Catherine has agreed to write it for me. Not only do I admire and respect Catherine, she is also, my personal accountability coach! She keeps me on track (no easy feat) and enables me to stay more focused and that allows me to more available to grow my business. There are a million things to do every day and only so many hours in a day. Left to our own devices, we may do the task that is fun or interesting or new, and not the task that we SHOULD be doing. When we focus on the wrong task, we may come up with some great explanations for why this happened. We may even come up with some excuses for why it isn’t our fault. Heck, we’re only human! If this happens once in a while, no big deal. If this becomes a pattern, then you have a problem. Entrepreneurs are an intense bunch and we have a million ideas. My general thought is that all of us – you, me, every entrepreneur – need to have someone or some group of people to hold us accountable so that we actually do the things that we need to do. If you don’t have someone to hold you accountable, you may end up in the emperor’s new clothes with nobody there to tell you that you’re naked! That’s the key piece of accountability.
