Autoimmune diseases in China. Adv Immunol. 2019;144:173-216 Authors: Li R, Sun X, Liu X, Yang Y, Li Z Abstract Autoimmune diseases, such as rheumatoid arthritis, systematic lupus erythematosus and Sjögren's syndrome, are a group of diseases characterized by the activation of immune cells and excessive production of autoantibodies. Although the pathogenesis of these diseases is still not completely understood, studies have shown that multiple factors including genetics, environment and immune responses play important roles in the development and progression of the diseases. In China, there are great achievements in the mechanisms of autoimmune diseases during the last decades. ConclusionIntense dust cloud exposure among responders and PTSD among community members were associated with a statistically significant increased risk of new ‐onset SAID. Clinicians treating 9/11 survivors should be aware of the potential increased risk of SAID in this population.

This article reviews the immunomodulatory role of vitamin D in autoimmune diseases and pregnancy. In particular, we will describe the role of vitamin D from conception until delivery, including the health of the offspring. This review highlights an observational study where hypovitaminosis D was correlated with decreased fertility, increased disease activity, placental insufficiency, and preeclampsia in women with APS.

Conclusions: Substantial AID heterogeneity exists by race and by geographic area. An important research area is further exploring factors related to heterogeneity such as potential interactions between genetic susceptibility and environmental factors.
